Album Notes

She's a rocker with the soul of a songwriter, and her sophomore release Random Access Memories showcases the balance between Kim Wright's brash, devilish attitude and her insightful, satirical view of the world.

Armed with only an acoustic guitar, Kim began making demo tapes and playing gigs in the late nineties in her hometown of Winnipeg. After playing live shows both solo and in rock bands for several years, she released her debut CD “Everyday That Scares You” in 2004.

The emotionally charged ten song disc varies from the powerfully hard-hitting “Girlfriend”, to the sultry sweet “Hello Angel”; the sullen intensity of “How Do I Feel”, to the purely stuck-in-your-head unforgettable “Tired of Floating”. Elements of loss and abandonment are intertwined throughout the disc with the theme of letting go, moving on, and not being afraid. Unedited, unabashed, and refusing to keep anything to herself, Kim confesses making this record was by far the scariest thing she has ever done, saying, “…it’s very much like allowing the world to read my private diary.”

Previous to her first release, Kim contributed a song to “Somebody Needs a Timeout”, a collection of Canadian artists performing children’s songs for charity. She has showcased at NXNE in Toronto, Prairie Music Week in Winnipeg, and in 2004 was handpicked by Canadian rock group Finger Eleven to open their Winnipeg stop on their Summer of Judgement Tour. ChartAttack called her “one of Winnipeg’s best kept secrets”.

Since her debut release, Kim withdrew from the live band atmosphere and began experimenting with producing electronic music. This coupled with a move to Vancouver in 2007 brought her songwriting to a new level. Experimentation took place in the wee hours of the morning in many cases, and over the space of a few years. "This is definitely not something I threw together overnight. These songs were written and produced between 2006-2010 in Winnipeg and Vancouver. It was an experiment to me, self-producing it in bits and pieces. Keeping what I felt sounded good, even if I knew it was a little off--I didn't care. The most important thing to me has always been the structure, content, and emotion of a song."

Two tracks from the new recording were turned into music videos in their demo stage and posted on YouTube, “Grapevine Politics” in 2007, and “You and I” in 2009.

New music videos are currently in production.
