notes

The Kinchafoonee Cowboys began in December, 1991 in a pecan orchard in Terrell County, GA. The original group consisted of Shane Cannon, Keith Cromartie, Brad Hallford, Chad McGrath, and Glenn Tennyson, who all grew up in the Albany / Leesburg area. The band's popularity began around Albany and soon spread to Athens where several members were in school.

During the next ten years, Kinchafoonee became a favorite around the state of Georgia, playing all types of venues from small clubs to large outdoor festivals. Over the years the group has shared billing with entertainers such as John Anderson, Trisha Yearwood, Diamond Rio, Tracy Lawrence, Martina McBride, Widespread Panic, Blues Traveler, Dave Matthews Band, and many others.

The Kinchafoonee Cowboys have released three studio albums. The first, Sowega, was recorded in Athens, GA in 1991 at Saturn Recording Studio. Their second album, Deep Dark Water, was recorded in Nashville, TN at the Home Place Studio in 1994. The latest release from the band, Kinchafoonee, was recorded at Mark Maxwell's studio in Athens in 1998. The group also released a single, Sic Em Dawgs, in 2001.

In 1998, original guitarist Brad Hallford left the band to pursue a career in law enforcement. He was replaced by guitarist Chris Scarborough. At the same time, keyboardist Jason Fuller joined the group, giving an extra dimension to the band's sound.

The Kinchafoonee Cowboys continue to tour throughout the state of Georgia regularly.

  • Good Time GA Feelin!
    author: Brian Marbury

I grew up with several of these guys and I can honestly say this is their best album. They have finally managed to capture that southern/country sound live and in the best place possible..Athens, GA (Go Dawgs!). Although I live in Alabama now, my heart is very much with my Georgia friends and this CD brings back many great nights in Albany, Ga. Sounds great!

  • More great country
    author: Bleu

This CD might be better than their early stuff. But it doesn't matter because it's all good. They're like The Varsity - you know what you're getting, it doesn't cost much, and it's great every time.

  • Why haven't these guys been signed
    author: Georgiaboy

Great mixture of southern rock and country. I can't understand why they aren't the radio. maybe we should start requesting them. with songs like Tennesee and Ever now and then, their range is unreal.

  • Fantastic music and lyrics
    author: Marlin

One of the things that make a CD great, to me, is RANGE. There are some great songs, lyrics on this CD, and not all of them sound alike. "Walk Away", "When I Fall", and "Kudzu Country Club" are 3 different songs that make you feel like you grew up with these guys down in Albany! I'm having a hard time getting this CD out of my 6-spot CD player in my car!!

  • Have not listened to it yet.Bought as gift
    author: Linda S. Elder

I bought the CD for a gift for a friend. She has Indian relatives with the last name Kinchafoonee and heard of your band a couple of years ago. We know there was a band of Creek Indians along Kinchafoonee Creek. Her name is Dixie Brown, 534 Dry Creek Road, Summerville, GA 30747. She would like to be on your mailing list. Thanks.

Bar room country and roadhouse rock. They've got a nice catchy pop/rock sensibility to their music, but they remain true to the country tradition; it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that twang! From wailing harmonica to scorching guitar riffs, knock-down drag-out brawl music to more sensitive downtempo songs, they've got great range.

  • Great music from back home
    author: Tom Dean

This brings it all home for me. Growing up on the Flint River & knowing the Kinchafoonee area - great sounds. Also takes me back to my cowboy days in & around Athens. Good lyrics, great licks & rhythms.

  • Great CD for all of us fans who like the country/western/bluegrass mix of music

  • southern rock/country /western is still alive
