If you want your children to sing, dance and beg you to learn an instrument, this is the album. It marinates them in acoustic music . "Swing Right Through This Town" their 3rd CD was conceived as a benchmark project in the field of children's entertainment. Featuring no less than 22 musicians Kinderjazz - The Big Swing Band For Little Kids -literally rockets into the 21st century....when only the best will do.
This jazz orchestra plays latin (Jump) the blues( Bugs in My Body), congas(The Conga Man) and also gets downright funky(Cinderella). There is a mini-opera (The Pied Piper of Hamelin) plus a baroque consort complete wtih fugue (The Princess And The Pea). Other songs include traditional fairy tales such as "Rapunzel" and the "Three Little Piggies". With "Colours of the Rainbow" swinging away, the album heads for a strong close with "See You Later". It is only after the palette has been well and truly prepared that the mighty and totally wonderful title track "Gonna Swing Right Through This Town" has the last bounce. This big band number pulls out all the stops and guarantees to have your kids dancing!
"Kinderjazz" does not rely on backing tapes when performing. This means that all the takes on this album are first takes and the acoustic feast that is called "live music" gets a thorough airing without the plastic cutlery of a drum machine, synthesiser, sequencer, midi, etc. in earshot. In the same way that you wouldn't limit a child to painting in only blue or yellow, Kinderjazz sincerely believes that
- age is no barrier when it comes to quality music
- live music is indeed a part of our cultural heritage
- creativity cannot be manufactured
- children learn with all their senses
We hope you enjoy the variety of musical styles. This is music inspired by children for children. It doesn't get much better than this!

The Pied Piper of Hamelin rocks! So does See you Later, Alligator and Cinderella. I love this album, but I love the last one, Gazooba, even more.

Spin the disc and watch them dance!
author: John Morrison, Swing City
There is something heart warming about watching children enjoy jazz. Adults often intellectualise the music and they forget to appreciate it in it's purest sense. I sat down with my three year old son to enjoy this recording and it was a hit from the first four bars. On the second playing he was singing along and dancing to many of the great jazz solos. Kinderjazz not only touches that spiritual element of swing essential to all good jazz, but by design, it also remembers that children can learn while having fun. Spin the disc and watch them dance. The children may actually end up showing the adults how to really enjoy good jazz
