Album Notes

Kindness combines a fusion of hard rock, electronica and groove to create a new sound called "rocktronica". Fueled with loops and samples, the band delivers powerful performances charged with Passion. [Metro, San Jose]

This San Francisco trio features Dawn Richardson (drummer for 4 Non Blondes), Katharine Chase (Penelope Houston's Loners), and Carrie Baum (Soul Divine).

...Kindness, a compelling loop-laden trio. It's a great mix: Chase's powerful, passionate voice is compellingly offset by brawn guitar and dreamy, dance-friendly beats and loops in a way that invites Alanis and early-Sinead comparisons, but is refreshingly original and constantly compelling. [East Bay Express]

Taking a cosmic approach to electronic rock music, this San Francisco-based trio of notable women stars Katharine Chase (former bassist for Penelope Houston), Dawn Richardson (former drummer for 4 Non Blondes) and Carrie Baum (former guitarist with Soul Divine). Their second album is a generally upbeat offering of roctronica that dances between bouncy synth-pop and aggressive industrial sounds. Chase's smokey vocals are inviting in the harsh, sexy style of Chryssie Hynde with a little Concrete Blond thrown in. Kindness incorporates some unexpected instruments into its music, including horns and accordion! [METRO, 2000]

Push Play and Hold on for this Rocket Ride!
author: Troy J Shadbolt
Kindness is a hardrocking trio "out" of San Francisco. The heavey percussion put down by Dawn Richardson and the flying guitar riffs by Carrie Baum on the recordings, but now performed by Shelley Doty are the flourishes on the driving bass and incisive lyrics of Katharine Chase. Whatever you do, don't call 'em chicks because these women have more balls than 99% of the rockstars out there today and ten times the talent.
