King Johnson brings you funky roots music from Atlanta, GA. The band's organic mix of New Orleans funk, blues, jazz, latin and rock styles make for a unique sound often hard to categorize. Crowds of all ages love the butt-shakin' grooves, catchy songs and extended improvisations of King Johnson. Voted Atlanta's best band in the "blues" category for half of a decade, King Johnson is praised by the Creative Loafing Magazine for "incorporating hook-heavy writing and facile playing with New Orleans brass funk and jazz." It's swampy, greasy, jazzy, spontaneous, loose and tight all at the same time. In addition to creating great songs, a live show is where this band shines. This band has been together over 10 years and it shows in how tight they play, and how much fun they have. Their 5th CD, “Live ‘05” is a collection of the band’s favorite songs from various festivals and clubs over the past year. Several of these tunes come from King Johnson’s first two albums, which are currently out of print. A couple of songs have not been recorded on any CD to date. All have the unique, funky grooves associated with any album they’ve done, adding the energy we want from a live show. Not only are these 14 tracks on "Live '05" original, the folk-art look of the CD was created by bassist Chris Long.
