Review and Bio
Remember the old days when you went to a rock concert and came out with slight, temporary hearing loss from standing too close to the mammoth P.A. stack, but you were a changed person and it was all worth it, then you did it again the following week, and then... all summer long until the tours eventually ended? Kingscrossing has a mission to bring all that back.
KINGSCROSSING is a killer mix of shear HEAVY METAL with radial riff deliveries, crushing bottom end and fast paced drum beats. It's hard to equate this band to something you've heard before. If you like metal in the vein of Manowar, Iron Maiden and Queensryche you will definately like this band. There are definite similarities between these bands. The music is obviously power metal with only minor slowdowns in tempo on your journey. The band has been around for just a few years. Their songwriting has a confidence that comes through. It's nice to see some bands still out there that get it done with the four basic elements: vocals, guitars, drums and bass. They retain that “True Metal” type of sound and it works. It's metal with a medieval flavor.
The show kicks off with a wizard who emerges from behind a crystal ball wearing a long flowing robe and holding a twisted oak staff. Waving his staff in full form, the wizard speaks of universal magic and beginnings of endings. A six-foot flame shoots skyward from the wizard’s staff and the band breaks into "Kingscrossing," their self-titled anthem. You can expect a theatrical show, medieval style as well as thundering Heavy Metal music!
The band “Kingscrossing” originated back in 2002, when guitarist Zack Grimm dis-banded his Arizona band "Steele Life" in early 2001. Zack's former band "Steele Life" performed with acts such as Flotsam and Jetsam,Cessation of Life, Missing Persons, Burning Groove , Pissing Razors, Society 1 , Imagika, Anvil, Suicide Kings, St.Madness, Face of Anger, members of Ratt and Warrant and many more up and coming bands.
One year had passed as Zack continued writing and composing more songs.Keeping focused on his vision to create a medieval themed metal band Zack took his metal project to Las Vegas Nevada in 2002 searching for dedicated musicians with the same vision. That Vision was bringing great Heavy Metal to Metal fans through out the nation.
Zack met up with ex-Aftershock vocalist Greg Williams and several months later, two other former members of Aftershock were added to the mix, bassist Rob Shock and drummer D. Hying. The band rehearsed the new music and performed several shows in the Las Vegas area. The band was scheduled to record their first CD in 2004, and was delayed when drummer D Hying was tragically crushed by a wall breaking his pelvis in 3 places. The band was back on track 7 months later continuing the project.
On March 2006 Greg performed his last show with Kingscrossing stepping down to pursue other matters. Lacking a frontman the band continued to rehearse new material and a friend stepped in to sing for the band to cover 3 last shows they had booked. April 29th 2006 guitarist Richie Pagan formerly of Avatar, Spent and Original Sin joined forces with Kingscrossing. Adding a second guitarist gave the band an awesome “Double axe attack”.
In need of a vocalist, Zack contacted Michael Adams former vocalist for Cyrus Zain. On June 17th 2006 Michael joined up with Kingscrossing and the search for a frontman was complete.
Not having a formal release of the first CD, it only made sense to remake the CD with the new members. In the short time the band was together from May 2006 to August 2006, the band rehearsed diligently and in September to November 2006 Kingscrossing successfully recorded the re-make of their first CD adding new tracks.
Vocalist Michael Adams, a vocalist formally trained in classical and opera, is known for his unique and powerful yet elegant vocal style. It is clear why his voice is nothing short of the elite class. His influences include Geoff Tate, Ronnie James Dio, and Paul McCartney.
Guitarist Zack Grimm, whose metal influences have helped mold his guitar styles, cuts to the chase. He is often quite laid back until show time, and then it’s down to business and frequent guitar changes. His heavy rhythms and searing melodic leads bring back memories of the way Heavy Metal was in the early days.
Guitarist Richie Pagan rips it up as well, soaring over the fretboard creating the same heavy rhythms and adding harmonies. The two guitarists often trade off solos making an exciting live performance.
Rob Shock’s bass lines carry a mean bottom end which lends a driving force behind their music.
D. Hying’s drumming and powerhouse style sets the Metal metronome and melds his rhythmic beats forming that Kingscrossing sound.
