Blues In Schools CD was recorded live at Ethos-Inc. (Portland Or. music and performing arts non-profit dedicated to underserved youth) by Nathan Merrill with grant monies from the N.E.A. and Ethos sweat equity.
Blues In Schools CD features NW award winning duo of Stu Kinzel & LynnAnn Hyde (guitar, voice, harmonica and button accordion) and is an exact recording of their school aged Blues In Schools presentation program.
The seven panel liner notes include fun facts about the Blues, geographical styles, artist profiles and photos! Everything is written with the school aged child in mind.
The disc includes narrative introduction to American Folk Art, information regarding African storytelling traditions and the relationship between African Folk art and Blues music. The narrative and song selections describe the exact nature, origin and SOUND of America's very first art form--the Blues! Every selection is age-appropriate, and has been kid approved through countless live presentations to over 200,000 children in Oregon alone since 1997.
Artist profiles, introduction to Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, the works of preservationist John Avery Lomax, how to count the beats in a measure and the measures to a verse, how to provide a back beat, call & response and traditional Blues arrangements are discussed in a kid-friendly narrative form with plenty of interactive portions. An introductory "primer" is incorporated into the eight panel liner notes, and reinforces the narrative and encouragement to develope musical skills. The narrative and liner notes introduce Smithsonian Folkways titles and the availability of recorded and written documentation of traditional American music at our public libraries nation wide.
This disc supports and encourages children to learn musical disciplines, write songs and carry on the traditions of the American Folk Artist. The narrative reinforces common American themes in storytelling and musical arrangements.
