Socially aware Persian lyrics set to Blues/Rock music.

Kiosk is a reunion of old friends made possible by the internet and digital recording. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered in various basements and home-studios around the world.

The lyrics and music were all written by Arash the "Adameh Mamooli" , and are based on his personal experiences and sociopolitical observations.

Translated excerpt from Track 3 - "adameh mamooli (ordinary man)":

Don't want to be in love, if it ends in separation
Don't want to be rich, if it costs my liberation
Don't want to waste my life becoming famous
Just want to be myself, an ordinary man
(Let's see if you leave me alone)

Translated excerpt from Track 9 - "jaddeh khoshbakhti(road to happiness)":

The road to happiness is under repair
Turn around and drive back, it's called fate
The relationship bridge is under construction
Provisioning the budget, project's in a pothole

Reviews:

"If you like your music fine and dandy, and happen to like your head where it is, namely buried in the sand, this album is not for you. Simply move along, and keep on 6/8-ing your decadent ass off. But if you miss having ample doses of rough harsh truth in your music, and more importantly, can handle it, this is one of the strongest efforts put forward by anyone so far. Maybe too strong for you."
- Bruce Bahmani, Iranian.com

  • Marde mamooli is the best
    author: Samim

This is the First Iranian Pon-Rock album that I have ever enjoyed listening to. The whole thing is absolutly professional. They are so talented, and songs are so great, and well writtena nd performed. I can easily say if he (Arash ) sang the songsin English they could be famous around the world and be millioners. I think we should take Arash (the singer and songwriter) so serious. He is great. Highly recomanded. Thank you CD Baby!!!

    author: Shahrokh Khastoo

This is just a superb job. I loved the musical arrangement and the lyric is just fabulous. What a creator writer!!! Reminded me a lot of some of the trend setting work done by Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.

  • another admirer of the combo of your sound, content and attitude.
    author: marawynn

heard you on 90.7 KPFK this morning..congrats! thanks for speaking the truth through music and doing something absoulutely opposed to what the "powers that be" are insisting on making music and people into these days. keep on exposing the truth. amen. or should i say besmellah?!

  • A jewel
    author: Sharon Kirk

As an American musician who has just discovered some fine talents in the Persian music world....I have to say, I was blown away by Kiosk. This band has distinguished itself as light years ahead of the rest. Yes, the Dire Straits/Bob Dylan, etc comparison is appropriate...but, there is something else there that is uniquely Persian. It's refreshing to hear real instruments played as opposed to the tricks of electronics. The guitar lead on one track seems a little amateurish, (trk 8) but give 'em time. They have the soul. Would love it if they could please give us the English translation of the lyrics. We're only getting half the story. Just ordered the second CD and assume there will more to follow. I hope they continue to stay real and close to the heart.

  • Great Music & Lyrics
    author: Mojgan

If you love this band, support it by buying its original CD and not copying.

  • Kiosk, Persian Hardcore Blues Band!
    author: IPC

Talking about Persian Underground Bands! I listened to Kiosk and got so impressed that I just had to drop these few lines. Right out of the bat, let me come out and say that this music is not for the Brain Drained, Dancing Sheeple (Sheep + People), yet this music is for the Thinking Minds who understand and cherish the musical value and Art. Make no mistake, Kiosk is not another average, same old Iranian soosool "Bang O Salavat" band, but they are a Heavy Duty, Hardcore, soul soothing, Guitar Blues Band! Folks, this is some serious music! If you are ready to Rock, then they will Rock your soul! Are you ready for them?! …(for more read the article)

  • Fresh air in Iranian music
    author: Mehrdad

Finally something different from boring Iranian traditional music and repetetative 6/8 rythm of Iranian pop music. The lyrics exposes contradictions of the Iranian society (inside and abroad).

  • Great! - a breath of fresh air!
    author: Nima

I give this 5 stars because there is little good modern Iranian music around. These guys are great and I discovered them thanks to YouTube. Highly recommend them! - very Leonard Cohen/Dire Straights but with their own twist and great lyrics...These guys deserve support so PAY for the songs! Both their Albums are great! CD Baby is great too (if only because they tell me that they 'love me' when I purchased the CD's from them.

  • maHshaReeeeeee!
    author: Davood

One of the best albums I have ever heard.

  • Breath of Fresh Air
    author: Elham

This is an eye opener for us all. It is about things that we all know but hardly talk about. It is a new view of the reality of our lives. It is serious but witty at the same time!!! It is a breath of fresh air. Highly recommended.

Guys, this is it. Very nice, well thought, designed. Fantastic lyrics. Loved the music videos, too. Your out of stock, need more of the cds, also, could you publish the music videos too?

  • Rock on dude!
    author: Battlestar

as a long time observer of the global music scene, I am impressed with the style and quality of this. I am a life long American rock fan, prog mainly, and want to encourage my Iranian brothers to exercise your right to self-expression thru your God-given talent for music. God bless your efforts.

  • Refreshing genre delivery. "A+" for originality in Iranian music.
    author: Matthew Ansari

The album heralds a refreshing break from the pop tradition in Iranian music genre where the same old beat and kitschy kitsch coo boy-girl lyrics have been repeating ad-nauseam. It proves that expanding further into borrowing from western core can be rewarding and not deepening the bankruptcy Iranian pop artists have been suffering from.

  • Brilliant
    author: Michael

I have been listening to this again and again and can't wait to buy their new CD when it is released next week and hopefully see them live sometime soon in London.

  • author: Reza. Cheshmehdoost

One of the new styles in Persian from an extraordinary man!

  • Ordinary life!
    author: Nasim

I like the roozmaregi taraneh and zourbaye malayeri very much... They are nice critics of the unfortunate cliche of life, specially for young generation...

  • Superb!!
    author: Moujan Ahouraian

Brilliant, awesome and so down to earth blues... LOVE IT!! Heard a peice on some tv piece, and had to stick to the end to see the credits, and finally found this album. RIGHT ON!! So refreshing... and so wonderful to be able to share across the globe like this. ROCK ON BOYS!! and if you head out to LA anytime, I'll be there at the show :-)

  • Awesome
    author: Khashayar

VERY VERY Intelligent music, great lyrics master production

  • Magnificent
    author: javid

Unbelievable :-) Fantastic, beyond the world from any, I mean any Iranian band. BarikalA, sad marhabA and khasteh nabAshin. One piece of advice from an older fan. No doubt that you will be a huge hit, but please remain a "Adameh mamooli" and keep producing this type of music. Forget Leonard, cause Kiosk is here :-) :-):-)

  • They Rock!
    author: Mo

I loved the lyrics. I will recommend this CD to all my friends.

  • Iranian Bob Dylan
    author: hajigholi

finally Persian Bob Dylan we need more of this keep it up

  • Fantastic work. There is hope.
    author: Bahman

I agree with the Mark Knopfler reference that a few other reviewers made. Copy cat or not, this is a major achievement for an Iran-based artist. It truly does put the run of the mill LA artists that are stuck making (bad version of) the (iranian)70's music to shame. Kiosk is not alone. There are many other exceptianlly talented artists that are making waves in Iran. I wish them all sucess.

  • author: babak

bitter, fantastic way of conveying the humiliation of socists in a modern way .seems to be the first steps to fill the wide deep gap in modern intellectual music in Iran

    author: Ehsan MZ

I really like the CD. It is a combination of real feeling of an ordinary character together with a beatiful mind!!! I highly recommend it. Also I loke the service of CDBABY which is very good.

  • So funny
    author: Bahram

The lyrics are so true and at the same time funny about the Iranian youth; maybe more general than that; and give a very nice feeling listening to the songs.

  • "My goodness gracious"
    author: Tico

This album is put together with masterly skills. Awesome lyrics, wonderfull music. All together a VERY good CD. This is for me the best production in iranian rock history ever. Thank you guys. Hope to see you someday on stage in Germany!

  • Nothing ordinary about Kiosk...
    author: Hamid Radvar

I have not been able to stop playing this CD eversince I got it. It actually brings tears to my eyes. Arash, please keep them coming...

  • Iranian Knophler
    author: Ali Nazemi

The influence of Mark Knophler on the band is quite obvious, however the level of music is beyond the expectation from a rock band in a country that rock is banned for 27 years....Lyrics are soft and shocking....Nice job and of course worth to listen...I am indeed looking forward to the next album...

  • author: koush

Definitley an original style for persian artists that I have heard at least.. Some songs sound similar to dire straits which is a very beautiful type of music..the singing specifically (laid back low deep voice as if you're talking more than singing). nice work

  • Easy to listen, hard to believe!
    author: Farhad

That was really a good job. Although he is an ordinary man, his work is extraordinary and unique in its kind. My favorites are track 2 and 5. I have listened to Persian rock before, but this is ways better and more professional in my view.

  • Not an ordinary album at all!
    author: Kamran Afary

I am enjoying listening to this album immensely. It's one of those albums you want to listen to over and over again. It is so lovingly put together. I like listening to the guitars, the vocals, the lyrics, their ebbs and flows. As a whole, for all of its quirkyness, depressing, and seeming cynicism, it is a very uplifting and optimistic. Never knew that blues could be "translated" in such an original way. Thanks.

  • I love it :-)
    author: Khashayar Honarkhah

Keep up the good work and we'll continue buying and listening to your music. *****AFAREEN*****

  • It was about time
    author: Proud Persian

Just one question: what took us Persians so long to come up with music and lyrics as cool as this album ? I am sure there are tons of groups out there who are waiting to be discovered, but Arash has started the movement. Great job guys, you made me really proud!

  • good immitation
    author: chuck

The artist bounces around between Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Dire Straights. He does not cross styles in each song and stays true to the immitating artist throughout the one song that he is mimicking. He does such a good job of immitation that is humerous and the poetry is contemporary to the Persian rich brat lingo. Though good, the poetry is relatively pointless primarily about rich Iranians who enjoy living in Iran and ignores the mass poverty, drug addicts and homelessness that is in the streets. Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Dire Straights talk about serious issues, where as this artist is more concerned about how to ignore the problems around him and enjoy life amidst the Islamic chaos that surrounds him. The music is good, and this guy has potential, though potential waisted.

  • amazing raw talent
    author: homayoun

very original. while the tunes draw your attention immediately, you only realize how good the stuff is after you have listend to it several times. The melody, the words, and the instrumental skills are indeed captivating. Special thanks to the people made it possible(bamahang??). I certainly hope that the musicians can benefit-financially-from their work as well. Look forward to more work from Arash and bamahang.

  • Driving through the road of life, this is the cd I keep in the dash.
    author: baabak_ye

Adameh Mamooli is the story of the everyman. Arash vividly paints a picture which every one has seen one time or another. It is the tale we can all relate to. bah bah khodam haal kardam, dorooghaam che shaa'eraanast. I met Arash a few weeks ago, and as I expected from the feeling of familiarity you get when you listen to an artist aaaaaaall the time, he was a very down to earth and classy kind of guy. This album hopefully will be one of many to come. Thank you Arash for such a essential contribution to the future of our culture. Also many thanks to Bamahang.ca for their support and interest in true Iranian Art & Music.

  • Outstanding CD

Outstanding CD, lyrics, composition & arrangement are great. Highly recommend it to all Persian music lovers. Thanks Arsh, very well done, the lyrics are great

  • A Reveloutionary Crisp, Clean, Release...
    author: Pourang Jahan'shahi

After all these years, a group of uniquely talented artist have stepped forward and released what I feel is the first if its kind in the history of Persian music. With outstanding composition, style, and rhythm, Kiosk has made an excellent recording of these fine written songs that truly reflect the daily life cylcel of the new generation in Iran. This album has greatly raised the standards for contemporary Persian music and will be remembered for many years to come.

  • Absolutly awesome!
    author: Arash Siah

Wow! What an outstanding piece of work. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We need more!

  • author: Mahyar

Good guitars and arrangements; the voice is not original; the lyrics is a list of the problems but they don't get inside the problems

  • my favorite: 9. jaddeh khoshbakhti (road to happiness)

  • A new hope!

The Persian music revolution has begun... support it!

  • Kiosk's Ordinary Man (Persian Hardcore Blues)!
    author: IPC Web Mistress

Kiosk and Ordinary Man Album is a cross over between Dire Straights & Eric Clapton's sound plus Robert Cray Bands & Kenny Wayne Shepherds' arrangements with a dash o Persian Blues Psyche, shoved in it as a spice blender! Actually if you think of it, Blues Music is totally compatible with Traditional Persian State O Mind & Culture! Well, from now on if Yanks brag about their Blues Guitar Gods such as Stevie Ray Vaughan & The Double Trouble or their New Comer Legends such as Jonny Lang or Susan Tedeschi, then we can also say: Hey wait a second, Excuse Moi, we also have a voice in the Blues Musac & they are called "Arash The Shades and The Kiosk"!

  • Great Post Modern Lyrics :)

  • Finally something for me in my own language
    author: Shahdad

True pioneers, hopefully paving a road for more to come. A Contemporary Iranian Bob Dillon in the same scale as Bob Marley has emerged. Mind provoking and beautiful

  • author: Excellent work,

I would highly recommend this CD for anyone who is interested in something different and unique.

  • Keep up the good work! I intend to spread the word, as well.
    author: Jamsheed H.

Others have stated most of what I'm about to say but here it goes anyhow.Lyrics are witty and intelligent. Music is outstanding. Mark Knopfler is probably my favorite musician and I do see a great deal of his inflcuence here. Same with JJ Cale, I guess. Nevertheless, I still find the words/music combination exhilirating. Keep up the good work! I intend to spread the word, as well. Peace out!

  • This is the real Iranian Revolution!!!
    author: Sebastian

OK! I know Dire Straits guys but this in Persian!!! These guys have done something in this Album that no Persian Band has ever done before! Besides the music, lyrics, composition & arrengment the MESSAGE of this Band & Album gives IRAN another hope & chance... (Tagseereh man bood) I can't get enough of your Album Kiosk! Thank you, You saved us... Last word: Arash & Kiosk! Would you please consider composing few songs in Bossa Nova style with Persian lyrics in your next album?

  • author: Mike

I have listened to the music very carefully, as I am an addict for good music. May it Opera or Heavy Metal. The lyrics and muscial composition is increadible yet to come from anywhere in the middle east, let alone from a single country. These guys are ages away from anything that has come or will come for a long while. The genious in their music is phonemanal. I here so much of well composed persian translated Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits here. The composition bits and pieces, the expression in the lyrics fall so well together with the musical composition. The more you listen, the more you want to listen to explore. And the more you listen the more you explore ! Keep the good music rolling gentlemen.

  • Wonderful and beyond! :-)
    author: Sepideh Khosrowjah

It is not very often that one discovers such an excellent art with content. Since my friend introduced me to Kiosk I have not stopped listening to this CD day and night! If anybody asks me what's going in Iran, I just say listen to Kiosk, everything is their songs and even beyond Iran. A real global view of human beings in the 21st century. After discovering Kiarostami in Cinema that changed my life Kiosk is another discovery that has changed my view of art and music. Kiosk has demonstrated the potential of Farsi to speak to today's problems in a Rock & Roll context and yet very Iranian. Keep up the excellent work! You are wonderful and not just Ordinary! :-)

  • Thank God, There is still hope...
author: Reza Badei (San Diego, CA)

I think Leonard Cohen, Dire Straits & even Bob Dylon would approve of these guys... Arash's voice along with the Lyrics & entire band's performance is absolutely what Iran & Iranians needed for so long to express themselves on the world stage! An advanced yet very profound manifestation of true Iranian Art joined the World Music. Thanks Kiosk, Thanks Arash. Congratulations... Buying the Album by Persians especially, is a duty!

    author: Amir Moazzami

Hay everyone, do know dire straits? If you do then you know the rest of the story. If not, move on. It's not your gig, move on now. I tip my hat to these kids and open my wallet as well. Shame on thos of you who enjoy this music and won't support it. As some other fellow said it, i am proud to speak your language kids.

  • Well done! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !
    author: Mandana Beigi

Finally a Persian album that deserves every penny of it's price point! This is a FANTASTIC record - It's creative ... it's witty ... it's blunt ... and it's a lot of fun. It certainly restored my faith in the possibility and the existance of 'good Persian alternative music' ! Thanks to all the Kiosk guys for drifting away from the disgusting Persian pop standards and bringing out something so fresh and honest out of Tehran. And, for the rest of the readers/browsers, BUY IT and SUPPORT IT !

  • I'm Proud to be Iranian
    author: Kamran Zolfaghari

So much talent. So much inteligence. So much braveness. I just wondered how these young men could be so good in music , instrument, arrangement, composition. Where they learned this. I'm really proud to speak the same language with these guys to understand the lyrics.

  • Never made before...
    author: Samira

Fantastic job...This is what I call a worth-while piece of metal! It didn't hit me right away...but all I needed was listening to a couple of the songs and it started growing on me. Get this CD, pop it in your car, and exist in the moment...Salute!

  • Congratulations on your album :) It's GREAT :)

It's the first time I've heard Persian music in my life, let alone Persian rock and I LOVE IT :) I'm really left speechless... The diversity of rhythms, themes, the magical sound of the Farsi lyrics... musically great :) Lyricswise, I could only understand the translated excerpts and they're moving and true, just like all poetry should be. Way to go! Definitely way to go Arash :)

Doostan, You guys are just amazing!! Thank you so much for your wonderful music, great humor, and deep understanding of your surrondings. This is a fantastic portal to what's going on in Iran for people like us on the outside. Continue to be daring and creative. Thank you

  • A very cultural experience... living in the Axis of Evil!
    author: Shabkheez Sarboland

There is something for EVERYONE! I bought one at first, then my friends asked me to get one for them, one after another. In 2 weeks, I have bought six of Kiosk's albums! That just speaks for itself. Buy it instead of copying, as you'll also Get Zartosht's Graphic work on the cover as a bonus :D

  • Finally!!!
    author: Keyvan

Finally, an Iranian album, not just one song, but a whole album that doesn't make you cringe. Good job on the lyrics and the music. I just wonder if the whole Mark Knopfler thing is on purpose (maybe Arash is a big fan) or if it's by chance. Either way I always liked Dire Straits, so it doesn't really matter. Overall I would recommend this album to everybody. The L.A. Iranian music community should be worried or they are probably just oblivious anyways.

  • excellent work on the way to open new xultural horizon

It was just surprising to hear such a fantastic melody from him.We are on the way to cultural revolution and freedom. We have talents everywhere waiting to arrive in homeland and take it to the top of highest mountains in the world. Long live Iran and it's rich culture

  • No-Ordinary Band :)
    author: Shahin

So I finally have a persian CD to listen to and not feel cheap about it at all. 5 years away from home this was the first time I listened to some lyrics I could actually relate to. Professional engineering on the sounds, love the guitar and the bass. My only remote complaint would be the overwhelming Dire Straits shadow over most of the music. Still, I couldn't have asked for more on a debut album. Keep up the good work, so proud of you guys.

  • Good Job!
    author: Roozbeh

The Lyrics is great and connects very quickly to the audience. It also matches perfectly with the music and this is something that I know you guys have worked really hard on it (almost any other Irainian pop and rock music lacks this). The picks, rythem and singing is a copy of Dire Straits (esp. the first albume and some songs in brothers in arms). So I guess the next task is to find your own style. You definitely have the tallent. This is amazing! You guys are great artists! You are in a territory that no Iranian rock artist has gone before, have fun with it and Good Luck! I am looking forward for your next albume and tour dates!:P

  • Lyrics has made magic
    author: Iradj

Lyrics impress you in an amazing way when Rock music gives you impression of good old Rocks. The electric guitar has made magic especially in track 8.

  • Great Job guys
    author: Karan Makvandi

I love your style, Good job guys, Specialy in ‘ JADEH’ , considering the situation you guys stuck in, this is unbelievable. From your interview with BBC and from your style I realize your inclination towards Mark Knopflers paradigm, its good to follow great musician but remember that Mark Knopfler in ‘Dire Starits’ or ‘Love over gold’ had had a long hike to Mark Knopfler in ‘Shangri La’ and he did it in an organic way thorught years. When I listen to your work in ADAM MAMOLI it’s like listening to a Mark Knopfler anthology . Lets have your own organic way up.

Afareen and keep trying to find your own style along this same path, please tell him for me. If our local big Iranian record store in L.A. starts carrying this CD it's probably me who called and told them about it. They didn't know and said they will try to get it if they can. Good luck guys.

Love your album. Thank you so much. I feel Iranian music is pulling out of the time warp of the last 25 years.

  • It sounds so familiar, yet it is so fresh.

  • Fantastic lyrics
    author: Arman

The style is Russian/Greek/Persian. Regardless, the music is interesting along with its funny and witty lyrics. Very political and youthful! Love it
