Album Notes

“in here” is Kirk Kadish’s debut CD from 1993 and right out of the gate shows the remarkably wide grasp of musical styles at Kirk’s fingertips. “in here” is a truly individualistic expression of Kirk’s classical, jazz, electronic, and ambient influences. A student of music theory and classical piano with John Kollen and Benning Dexter at the University of Michigan in the ‘70s, Kirk went on to tour with an Australian pop group for a year, then settled in Santa Fe for the bulk of the ‘80s, absorbing the open-minded artistic aesthetic of the city as well as the Hispanic and Native American cultural influences prevalent there. He was deeply influenced by his collaborations with the great jazz bassist, Joe Mondragon, late of working in Los Angeles with Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, and Art Pepper to name but a few.

Visits to New York City to study with jazz legends Lee Konitz, Harold Danko, and Gary Dial further broadened Kirk’s already rich musical pallette. The ‘90s found Kirk in Virginia Beach then in Annapolis, where he still resides today. While in Maryland, Kirk earned a master\'s degree in jazz piano performance, studying jazz composition with Glenn Cashman and jazz piano with Greg Hatsa and Tim Murphy. He is currently the Musical Director of the \"Volunteers\", the Army\'s official touring show band and has performed with them throughout the U.S. and abroad for the past 14 years. Since the release of “in here’, Kirk has recorded two more works: “Drift”, a 2004 solo effort which garnered critical praise from the editors at CNET and the Public Radio show, Echoes; and “Tradewinds”, a strongly jazz-tinged 2005 release which has enjoyed global popularity over the last three years, and is also available here at CD Baby.
