MEET MISS JONES...
Kirsten Jones has called Toronto her home for over a decade, but this Virginia natives southern influences still shine through. In addition to the occasional yall that peppers her speech, she gets inspiration from such artists as Patty Griffin, Maria McKee, the Jayhawks, and Lucinda Williams. "I didnt really listen to American alt-country before moving to Canada, and now its my music of choice. The Canadian music scene has also had a major influence on me, and Ive melded the two together in my music".
Jones spent her first few years in Toronto playing solo in various bars and coffeehouses, as well as singing back-up for several local artists. During this time, she also went to work for Universal Music Canada. After seven years on the job, she finds her record company experience invaluable. "Not only do I have an understanding of the industry that many artists arent privileged to, but I have also had exposure to artists who have long inspired me to become a musician myself". In fact, a meeting with Sheryl Crow further strengthened her desire to follow her musical dreams. "Here I was, meeting Sheryl Crow and introducing myself as a record company employee and I realized Id rather be introducing myself as a singer and songwriter".
So, Jones quit her day job. She grabbed her guitar and headed for Nashville, where she played in various clubs around town, including the legendary Bluebird Café. During the past year, Kirsten has also been touring in Canada, sharing the bill with such artists as Minnie Driver and Kristy Thirsk. She has had showcases at several major music conferences, including New Music West in Vancouver, Canadian Music Week and North by Northeast in Toronto, the Midwest Music Summit in Indianapolis, and NEMO in Boston.
Drive-In Movie is distributed through Maplenationwide/Universal and can be found at most Canadian record retail outlets or online at www.maplemusic.com. Kirsten recently received a FACTOR demo recording grant, and she is currently recording her next CD, Mad Mile, and touring Canada in support of Drive-In Movie (tour details are posted at www.kirstenjones.com).

Honest talent
author: Bruce Alpert
She's got a beautiful voice, but Kirsten's big selling point, in my view, is the honesty of her songs. She holds little back, expressing both the joys and disappointments of human relationships. She's become one of my favorite performers. I'm no doubt part of a long list of people waiting with great anticipation for her next CD, which, I believe, is due out later this year. If you can see her live, take my word, do so. She's great on the CD, but in person, somehow she manages to kick up the emotions of her music even more. The audience at her recent performance in Toronto responded with great enthusiasm.
