ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Haiti's 1804 revolution remains a vivid reminder of the possibilities of humanity to break the chains of racial oppression, against overwhelming odds, and the mightiest empirical powers, to forge a dynamic society from the ashes of ruin. Haiti's bicentennial shows us not only how far we have come, but how far we can, and will, go.

This recording is but a small tribute to a great revolutionary nation. It is a small tribute to a people who have given us all so much, even if we have been unaware, or have refused to acknowledge those gifts. If our listeners are brought joy by this music and text, if saying publicly, happy birthday Haiti, increases awareness of that beautiful nation, if our audience has more questions than answers in regard to Haiti, we have done our job today.

Delighted with this CD.Important addition to understanding of Haiti.
This CD will certainly be recommended to the people who come to see the "Artists of Cap Haitien View 200 YEARs of Haitian History" exhibition at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center in Ft. Lauderdale Florida, May 6-June 24. We are showing paintings that in many ways illustrate the music and the beautifully rendered texts on this CD. I'm glad I took a chance on buying it. I love it!

Brilliantly done!
Thank you thank you thank you, for not only creating an homage to Haiti and its people (past and present) but also for making this such a well-crafted ensemble of excellent original music. This is inspiring to me as a musician, and a wonderful gift to give to my father, the Haitian singer Edner Xavier. Thank you again and I hope to meet one or all of you one day!
