A mix of intellectually subtle compositions by Uli Langthaler,
rustic arrangements of Thomas Kugi, and deeply grounded
melodies from Oliver Kent, exciting and soothing at the same
time. Joe Zawinul’s Hippodelphia: A bow to the late great
master. With this piece KL7 brings the spirit of the 60’s into
the present. It’s the energy and the coherence of their music
that characterizes the complete work of KL7.
Ulla Kerck, Vienna press
KL7 is showcasing excellent individual musicianship as well as a
well-rehearsed ensemble with a clear perspective towards the future. KL7 is a contemporary ensemble that is neither trendy nor nostalgic, rather a band with its roots in the jazz tradition with a fresh and updated sound. Their elegant arrangements are jewels, such as Billy Strayhorn’s smooth Blood Count or Joe Zawinul’s Hippadelphia as well as the original compositions by Oliver Kent and Uli Langthaler.
European jazz at its best!
Christoph Huber, Porgy & Bess
For several years now, my collaboration with Uli has been
an integral part of my musical work. His drive and support
are unique – regardless how crazy, agitated or reserved
my contributions might be ... KL7 is a logical extension of
this cooperation.
Oliver Kent
Some of my favorite bands are stamped with two strong
personalities: Weather Report, Thad Jones & Mel Levis,
Art Farmer & Benny Golson ...I have the honour to lead the
KL7 band together with Oliver, one of the most important
Austrian jazz pianists. We share both the good and
difficult sides of improvising, composing and organizing and
I’m happily surprised with the outcome.
