Album Notes

For those of you who haven't heard this CD, you should! We're a trio from Asheville NC. This CD was released in 2000 but still holds it's own, full of colorful lyrics, odd time signatures, extra-musical devices, and a dose of ear-catching melody. Members of Klarcnova have gone on to be rich and famous, or at least busy in many other fabulous projects including the Secret B-Sides, the Lithuanian Empire, High Gravity Jazz Trio, Gregory James, Herb's Herbs, and Cabo Verde. They have also taught the next generation their craft and are waiting patiently for their recognition.

The members of Klarcnova hate jazz. Well, not really, we just think jazz has been a musician's music for way too long. It has become a music where the audience sits still and appreciates it from afar. People don't dance to it anymore. It's not fun.

We think it's high time jazz got a sense of humor.

The Members of Klarcnova hate each other. No, that's not entirely true either, let's just say they're 'artistically divergent.'

The guitarist's influences are the typical fare, Jobim, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Wes Montgomery, Derek Bailey, and Charlie Hunter. Having studied jazz at a credible university his knowledge is as deep as his hazel eyes.

The bass player, now he's a strange bird. Bass did not come naturally and only after being kicked out of MENSA for wrastlin' did he abandon his true calling, ichthyology. He studied with Jeff Berlin but I'm not going to hold that against him. He claims his main influences are Gene Simmons and Peter Tork. Well, more accurately they're something like James Brown, Late 60s STAX, and Motown. Seriously old school. He once told me slap-pop bass is as much fun to listen to as a cat with staph. Meeow!

The drummer from the debut CD (Scott Glen) is a serious jazzer. Progressing from his early djembe days he studied the stylings of Jack DeJohnette, Airto Moreira, and Tony Williams. He can do this really weird schizo thing where he plays an entire Afro-Brazilian bloco by himself. It's all we can do to get him to slow down so he can take his medicine. The drummer from the second CD (Robin Tolleson) is a seasoned jazz, rock, and R&B drummer. The second CD is all about groove.
