notes
The enchanting ukulele chanteuse, Janet Klein and her intriguing gentlemen pals, the Parlor Boys, perform 23 Late Ragtime and Early Jazz-Age tunes as well as 1920s jazz-styled Hawaiian numbers and French and Amercian speakeasy songs.
Sweet and sexy like a classic showgirl, evoking the vamps of the silent era, Janet Klein coos gloriously sweet numbers such as "You're A Heavenly Thing" and "Cooking Breakfast For the One I Love" and flirts and teases with naughty songs such as " The Physician","Nasty Man" and "I'm No Angel".
Janet's own unique vocal style reflects the old-fashioned sweetness and charm of bygone singers like Ruth Etting, Josephine Baker, Lil Armstrong and Mae West.
Among the Parlor Boys are two alumni of R.Crumb's band "The Cheap Suit Serenaders", Tom Marion, on guitar, mandolin and banjo, and Robert Armstrong, on Hawaiian steel guitar, accordion and saw, as well as recording and radio personality Ian Whitcomb, on ukulele and accordion, composer, band-leader and music historian Brad Kay, on ragtime style piano and cornet, and John Reynolds, on guitar and whistling(grandson of Zasou Pitts).
Janet has managed to charm these time-warped musicians into her parlor and out on the town, performing regularly for audiences in Los Angeles and Northern California.
Also an alluring treat is the CD packaging itself, chockfull of period photographs and ephemera from Janet's collection.

I Want to Be Janet Klein
author: Graceann MacleodEverything from the CD packaging to the music inside is pure gold - I love every song, with Nasty Man and I'm No Angel being particular favorites. It's clear that Janet and her Parlor Boys are having a hoot putting this recording together, and I dare anyone not to smile as they listen.
Sings to My Old Soul!
author: Mary ChapelI must be channeling my inner flapper because I love every song on this CD. Great to sing along. Yipee!
I'mma flapper at heart, and boy, did my heart sing!
author: Lauren KaneUpon my discovery of Janet Klein, I have a new favourite, a fancy, if you will, in my CD collection. Thank you, Janet (and the boys)!
Thank you Janet (and the boys) for this wonderful album
author: Bill LarsenMany of the other reviews have extolled the virtues(well deserved) of Janet Klein. I would like to commend a couple of the other great voices on this CD; Tom Marion on 'Someday Sweetheart' and Ian Whitcomb on "T'aint no sin.." This is a grand CD and I heartily recommend it.
Everything old is new again (and even better)
author: MoadsterWhat style! What charm! This CD will take you time-traveling back to an era when songs were clever, melodic and just a tad naughty, and girl singers could REALLY sing.

Bought on concept alone, I thoroughly enjoyed these blasts from the distant past. I will look for more from this group!
Unusual but good
author: VolponeIf you're looking for something that's different but well done and a lot of fun in the bargain, buy this CD. The songs are strong on variety with instruments that we don't hear much any more. Janet has a perfect voice for this kind of music with a bit of naughtiness mixed in with her innocence. If you're a fan of great double entendre lyrics there are plenty of those as well. It will bring a smile to your face.
Yes, more Janet!
author: SquishI can't get enough of Janet. Don't know what I'm going to do now that I have all four. This one offers excellent percussion/vibes, whistling, and musical saw.
Another Wonderful CD from Janet & Boys
author: wrbtuJanet shines on such greats as Shine, Any Kind-A-Man, Nasty Man, Paradise Wobble, & Clip Joint. These songs are reminiscent of the authentic style used by Leon Redbone in another genre. They're not overdone, they have a real feel for the music & period, & the playing & singing are wonderful.
They may be in the parlor, but they're definitely cooking.
author: ErnestThe addition of the parlor boys to Ms Klein's music infuses a real kick to these wonderful jewels from yesteryear. Her vocals are wistfully impish while the instrumental solos leave you with a "that was just right" fulfillment. The guys in the band are obviously having a great time.If you're looking for early 20th century jazz with a few tunes showing the Hawaiian influence so popular during that era(not overdone)you will love this CD.

Like listening to a scratchy 78, without the scratches!
author: MikeWhat a charming and delightful CD-- harkens back to a time when "naughty" music was clever and suggestive without being vulgar and crude. Its like a little vaudeville, a little cabaret, or a little jazz in a dark smoky club... My first CD by this artist, but definitely not my last!
Lovely
author: J StewartLovely, lovely..
Just the thing to lighten your mood!
author: J. Randall hicksParadise Wobble captures the real spirit of the 20s and 30s in a collection of music that will lift your spirits after a bad day. Not only is the music fun to listen to, but the photos and artwork are great to leave lying around on your coffee table for guests to enjoy! Worth every penny!
I like this original sound...
author: wajdiI like the orignal sound on this CD. www.wajdicherif.com
An absolute delight
author: DawnCharming, fun, naughty and nice! Top-drawer musicians all. The renditions infuse new life and personality into these old gems while remaining faithful to the tradition and spirit of the original. Such a joy.
I love it.
author: Louis ChernovskyThis was my first Janet Klein album, but most likely not my last. I love this album. I have been listening to it non-stop for about a week and a half now. Definately worth getting for anyone who likes music.
Vintage jazz that’s a little bit naughty, a little bit nice, and always charming
author: Pamela RooneyEvery one of the 23 selections on this record attest to the fact that she certainly IS an enchanting ukelele chanteuse as the cover of the CD states. Novelty tunes and jazz titles aside, every member of the group that performed on this record brought their own interpretation of the songs, and together they blew life back into pieces that might otherwise have been forgotten by time, and certainly have been forgotten by generations following the era when they were popular. The overall delightful and bewitching feel of the performances is enough to win over any listener, not to mention making Betty Boop jealous.
Makes me wish to have lived in an earlier era……
author: Warren B. Conner, Jr.Great music and Heavenly voice, better then Prozac for lifting the Spirits………
loved it!
author: Nora O'connorWe loved it! We sang and danced and now my roommates want it too! A lot of fun! Thank You! I'm so glad i heard this cd playing in a shop in new orleans so that i could discover it and enjoy it myself! I'm raving! To die for.....
It's probably one of the best purchases I've ever made.
author: Katherine J. KimI saw her live at the Silent Movie Theatre in Los Angeles and fell in love with her singing. She has the perfect voice for the type of music on her CD. TI thank her for bringing to life an era that I love so much - the Roaring 20s! The best song on the CD is "It was only a Sunshower". buy it- it's worth it!!!!!! -Katherine Kim
