Album Notes

kleveland:
seeking males, females and inbetweens
for a nice evening of sweat and hip shake

SOUNDS LIKE:
"Referencing everyone from Iggy Pop to Blondie to the Kinks, Kleveland stunned onlookers with walls of sound and pounds of rockstar panache." --The Oregonian, 5.19.02

"Kleveland's original songs...all catchy and smart and quick with cool, insistent melodies, propulsive bass and curt drumming. Kleveland rocks, but from un(der)expected angles." -- L.A. Weekly 3.30.02
LOOKS LIKE:
"She's got a big mouth, pretty and rude, just like her songs"
--Falling James, L.A. Weekly, 3.30.02

"With her fan-blown hair whipping around and the fog machine cranked up, Kleveland's singer Stephanie Smith, looked like a cross between Joan Jett and Suzi Quatro as she and her band blasted through a set of choppy pop-punk". --The Oregonian, 5.19.02

"Proceedings begin with P-town's own Kleveland, a trio of kick-ass local heros lead by guitarist/singer Stephanie { }, the sort of girl Iggy Pop wishes he was--spastic, unpredictable, completely given over to the noise." -- The Portland Mercury, 3.8.01

It started as a side project for frontwoman Stephanie S. one year ago during a hiatus from Portland's Spectator Pump. The response was so overwhelming it became a full time project. On the drums is Scott M. and the bass is manhandled by Joe C. A full length album is due Jan 03.

REVIEWS

Primal and raw combination of punk, pop and alternative rock.

The entire album has a rawness to it that allows the passion and energy behind Stephanie’s songs to come to the fore. The energy is evident right from the opening track “One Eye”, a superb Iggy Pop inspired slab of punk, and is confirmed with “The Dukes” and “Adult Love” both of which have a bit more of a pop sound (although certainly not the sugar coated variety).
