As the dust was settling over the 90’s and a four year stint co-heading rock outfit Spectator Pump, Stephanie Smith stepped out on her own to form Kleveland in 2000.
She says of the band name’s origin - “You know Wonder Woman’s ‘Paradise Island’ which consist of all badass ladies? Ok– I worked at this bar, with a couple of bad-ass ladies. This guy Bruce, the owner of the old Ozone records store on Burnside, was partying there late with us, and commented that we were woman that he imagined lived on that Island of Wonder Woman’s..he called it cleave-land. We laughed and told him he would never know, because no man could get to cleave-land. Soon after I started making 4-track tapes, giving them to friends, and just wrote Kleveland on them for laughs, but I secretly always wanted to be a super-hero with a magic lasso, so it stuck.“.
Kleveland released an EP Everybody Wants To in 2002 and a self titled full length in 2005. The latest CD Harder has just been released, along with a music video to \"You\'re Not Sorry\' that features not just the band, but some lovely vampire girls really tearing it up. They have a reputation for explosive live shows, so catch them as they tour in support of Harder.

Like shooting tequila

Lick of salt, toss back the shot and chase it with a suck of lemon. Listening to this band is just like that for me. The crunchy Les Pauls, the rhythm section hammering away and Stephanie growling out timeless, hedonistic & nihilistic themes. I'm not always in the mood for this kind of music, but when I am - DAMN! - does this hit the spot!

Back to Rock

This album is AMAZING! It brings us back to the basic principal of rock. Lead singer Stephanie Smith takes you on a awesome quest to find the justice in one trick ponies, drinking/fucking/fighting, and just what sloppy seconds mean. Since I have purchased this album I have listened to at least one song from it daily. I really relate to the lyrics and music is just fabulous! This album is designed for anyone with a soul for rock 'n roll.

Harder Rocks

Kleveland is an amazing group of musicians and people. They helped me see that rock n roll is still alive and well. Their shows are incredible and after crafting some of the newer material on stage they put together a great batch of music for the new cd Harder. There is alot to listen to on this cd. For me, I can\'t turn up Late Bloomer and Golden Gloves loud enough. There is some serious rock on this cd and is totally worth the price. Spend the $15 and support one of the truly great bands out there....Stephanie Smith for one is the real deal....this cd just shows there is alot more to come.....the energy....the music just keeps getting better. Love live Kleveland!!!
