Album Notes

First there were autocracies, plutocracies, dictatorships, and democracies then came Klezmocracy. An aggregation of musicians from Portland Oregon who decided to turn the Klezmer world on it's ear.

"They do things to Klezmer I thought was best left for back room deals but bring it to the light for all to enjoy!"
-anonymous fan after a concert

The group is made up of Ralph Huntley (piano/keyboards), Joseph Janiga (drums and percussion), Michael Papillo (double and electric bass), and Courtney Von Drehle (saxophones and accordion).

My head just heard Klezmocracy as a jazz band with a different rhythm...or rhythms. Well played, fun and inventive. I'll be buying this album as a gift for some of my jazz-listening friends.

This outstanding CD gets better each time you listen to it.

This CD with its eclectic blend of klezmer, African, jazz and Latin influences is just a delight to the ear. One song has you sitting back, mellow, the lights dim, with a glass of warm cognac and then the next gets you up and dancing with an infectious case of happy feet. The musicians are superb, the production is sublime -- it defies description or categorization. It just plain makes you feel good! BUY THIS CD -- you will not be sorry!

I saw the OPB presentation of Klezmocracy and after listening to the CD, I greatly appreciated the merger of musical styles. The music is great and has enough variety to keep it from becoming boring. Keep up the good work, guys.
