Album Notes

"Delusions of Klezmer" is the second release from the Washington/Baltimore based klezmer band, The Alexandria Kleztet. They call the type of music they play, "alternative klezmer," since, while it is rooted in Jewish tradition, it borrows freely from other genres, including jazz, rock, classical, and world music. The result is a new sound that is at once innovative and enjoyable.

The album features 18 selections, 10 of them original compositions by the ensemble, with a total album length of over 68 minutes.

"Delusions of Klezmer" was recently named "Best World Music Recording" by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) for the year 2002!

Wonderful CD! I'm fairly new to Klezmer music, but have been a jazz and classical fan all my life. This group gives you the best of EVERYTHING. They just make you want to get up and dance (and sometimes I do!) An instant mood lifter. What a joyful way to start the day!

Constantly surprizing, and always entertaining. High energy!

I do a lot of tech work, so the music is great because it keeps me energized without having to deal with words. I enjoy all of the songs, but the title track from "Delusions of Klezmer" is just a perfect piece. Haunting at times, the orchestral sound created with the addition of the viola and cello makes it sound lush. Definitely one of my top five albums!

This CD was my first venture into the world of Klezmer and I am really impressed. I love the melodic mixing and dizzying build-ups. It's just a lot of fun to listen too. My kids and I have had a great time dancing and marching around the house. Thanks for turning me on to a new musical possibility.
