"Knife & Fork is music from a deep place, from the groin, from the belly, from behind a cage of ribs. It's that truckstop cum cabaret on that road that stretches between Warsaw and Moscow; where among the slow dancers passes the ghost of behemoth. Bones rattle on yak skins while the melancholic female figure onstage sings low and sad without shedding so much as a single tear. Others sit in the shadows at their tables, transfixed, listening. They come every night to be soothed by her blue voice, tapping their fingers to the drum and the bell." - Frank Black of the Pixies
kNIFE & fORK is a soundtrack for dreams, rife with symphonic textures, rhythm, dissonance and distortion, saturated in ethereal vocal melody and harmony. It is also a band led by Eric Drew Feldman and Laurie Hall who were introduced in 1995 after a PJ Harvey concert in San Francisco, an artist with whom Feldman was performing at the time.
Eric Drew Feldman has played with everyone from Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, Snakefinger, The Residents and Pere Ubu to the Pixies, Frank Black and PJ Harvey. He has also produced records by Frank Black, dEUS, Tripping Daisy, Sparklehorse, The Polyphonic Spree, and Charlotte Hatherley (of Ash) amongst others. kNIFE & fORK marks the first time he has ventured out with his own project.
Laurie Hall is known mostly as bassist/vocalist/ songwriter with San Francisco underground band Ovarian Trolley, and currently in the female vocal group, The Hallflowers.
kNIFE & fORK also includes:
Sunshine Haire on guitar and vocals. Sunny's haunting and melodic slide guitar, in addition to her beautifully blending voice, have been a cornerstone of San Francisco's Waycross for years. She was also a member of the now defunct Bedlam Rovers.
Jennifer Hall also of the Hallflowers and Ovarian Trolley rounds out the lineup on vocals, percussion, and keys.
Chris Sipe on drums and vocals. Chris started touring at age 19, and has played with numerous bands and singer/songwriters in both Dallas and San Francisco. These have included Jesse DeNatale, Rykarda Parasol, the band Joe Buck, violinist Carla Kihlstedt, guitarist Jim Campilongo, and Texas band Little Jack Melody.

Knife and Fork Cut Blues
Beefheart, Pixies keyboardist takes turn in spotlight... "Miserycord sounds something like classic blues filtered through avant garde composer Tony Conrad, an atmospheric alchemy with Feldman's keys providing a droning sense of menace and Hall's wraithlike vocals, particularly on "Wild," exuding a modern take on a distorted Delta moan that echoes bluesman Charley Patton."

"Knife & Fork is one of the only bands that have affected me in recent years. Unpredictable, beautiful, powerful, and moving. Quite unlike anything else." - Polly Jean Harvey

I give this album 5 stars, I do so because I am so tired of all the formula based crap that is played on most music outlets. Like VH1 or MTV etc (does anyone remember how good MTV used to be?) Well this band has taken a gamble...rolled the dice and decided they are gonna play intelligent interesting music.Reminds me alittle of the awesome group King Crimson from the "lizard" album. I LOVE this music! If you are like me sick of the phoney hip hop and teen junk played today do yourself a favor and get this cd! Settle back have a drink and enjoy a real "journey" into something a little different. BRAVO Knife and Fork!
