Album Notes

Seven Devils:

A haunting parade of spook songs unfit for the faint of heart. From within the darkened soundscapes, the fragile bones of fetching pop emerge, only to sink again into the plangent pond. Most of the music on this debut soundtrack was recorded with a Nagra mono reel to reel tape recorder documenting an orchestra of found sounds and a chorus of tortured voices. Sometimes uplifting, often chilling, like a ride on an old wooden roller coaster that should have been decommissioned decades ago, a bang worth taking for those with mettle.

Knocker:

Lost in the endless rolling corn rows of southwest Wisconsin, where everything and everyone seem challenged, Knocker is an evolving experimental project, committed to dropping all chains of what is expected in popular music to develop a more primal direction. Says one member, “It’s a Frankenstein process really, just taking a bunch of lifeless pieces, that met unfortunate and violent ends, and stitching them back into one, and bringing it back to life with powerful electronics. But like the story, the result can be more mutinous than planned”.

Recorded on a old farm in near complete isolation, many of the sonic tools are found in the wood shed or barn. Befitting the environment, elements are often slowed to a crawl to reveal hidden nuance. Like gutting a fish, it becomes more open and carnal as creeping rhythms become disjointed from the melody, creating unsettling theater . “Weʼre dowsing for something, not sure for what, but it definitely ainʼt water”
