Album Notes

Tom Kohl - Piano
Stephen Roane - Bass
Recorded December 3, 2001 and January 4, 2002

"Twain" is a wonderful program of distinctive piano/bass duets, composed either singly or together by Kohl and Roane.Drawing on 20th century composition, the writing of both players is harmonically rich, with enough space in the sound to allow the music to instantly resonate in the listener's mind.
Most tracks average in the three to four minute range, which perfectly suits the impressionistic nature of the music. The exception is the 8:40 "Prescient", whose length allows for a thoughtful, slightly ominous, journey toward a grand, almost symphonic climax. This sleeper of a disc is well worth seeking out.
