The Kosher Red Hots explore the rich treasure house of Jewish music—whirlwind klezmer dance tunes, Yiddish and Ladino folk songs, Yiddish theater and swing, jazz, and cabaret. With a wicked yet tender clarinet, a powerhouse accordion, a master bassist and guitarist, and an adventurous vocalist who grew up in New Mexico among descendents of the Sephardic diaspora, their appeal reaches across cultural boundaries and stirs audiences of all kinds. The group plays everywhere from concert hall to nightclub, college to preschool, dinner theater to sidewalk bistro. And their favorite haunts? Seattle‘s Jewish old folks homes, playing the elders’ beloved songs. The group’s contagious music is provocative and utterly contemporary while it reaches back to its Eastern European and Mediterranean ancestries. It’s wild, it’s reflective, it’s di gantse megillah, the whole enchilada, or, rather, the whole bureka. What’s a bureka? Come and find out!
