Old Classics and New Classics-To-Be: How can you go wrong?
author: T. Hiles
Part retrospective, part treats, Wish On A Star marks the out of print status of Karen's older discs (Planet and Optimist Party) while offering hints of what may have been and what may be to come on her next full-length release. A selection of tracks from Optimist Party serve as highlights of what I'd consider to be Karen's breakout album, including fan favourites Trying Anyway and Crazy Little Game, live renditions of classics Don't Assume and Nothing To Declare and four new unreleased/rare tracks to round out the disc: Monday (upbeat, throwback feel to OP), Always Been Kind (piano-driven, softer sound), You Do (haunting, emotional number evocative of OHAS) and East Coast (a song for anyone in relationship turmoil!). A must have for all fans, and a great intro to Karen's older, more folky sound for those just becoming aware of Karen through Out Here At Sea. Now stop reading, and start buying!
