Growing up in southwest Missouri, right on the edge of the Ozark Mountains, Kenny Ray was raised on the traditions of homegrown bluegrass. A move to Nashville in 1994 got him started in the country music arena. Here, he wrote for many publishing companies in Nashville, including Oh Boy Records, where he he got a song recorded by Kenny Rogers.
The song, "A Soldier's King" on Kenny Rogers Christmas release,'The Gift', has sold an RIAA certified 500,000 copies and is closing in on 1,000,000.
"A Canary's Song" is Kenny Ray's debut bluegrass release. The band that he assembled for this record are some well-known names in the bluegrass industry and have been around the industry for many years, as well as some new faces. Keith Arneson on banjo, Pat White playin' fiddle, mandolin, guitar and singing some harmony, Jeremy Middleton on bass, Darren Beachley singing way up high, bluegrass legend Mike Auldridge on dobro and the voice of the nation, the announcer for the Presidential Inauguration for 2009, Courtney Williams singing bass on a couple of tracks.
This mix of old and new is reflected in his latest release. Definitely not your everyday bluegrass, Kenny Ray and is band bring together the old and the new with a touch of Kenny Ray's down-home personality!
