Album Notes

"While technical talent isn't hard to find, poetic, emotive songwriting - the stuff that chokes you up or reminds you of what's important in life - is a rarity. Kris Nichols is among the handful of artists with such a gift for song."
Jeff Nall, Florida Today

From the depths of central Florida there is a voice. You know it's there, you can feel it. You can feel its sweet melodies and ambient bliss crawling up your spine in a possessing twist. It enraptures you whole. As it takes over your being, it sings its genuine tune of everything you have always felt, but could never find the right words to say. It is sincerity, passion, creativity and exaltation at its finest. That voice belongs to singer/songwriter, Kris Nichols.

With the release of his first full-length album, Independent Release, Nichols' is reinventing what it means to be a definitive songwriter. Nichols' uses unique song structure to tell the story, his story. Through his use of seemingly effortless and creative lyrics, melody, and composition, Nichols draws on the organic shape of a situation or relationship with an uncanny and inspired ease. Nichols' performed all the vocals, guitars and even the glockenspiel to fill out the sound of Independent Release. The songs eclectically range in dynamic; from the short acoustic "Anyone Who's Looking" to the epic and experimental "Noise," leaving no patch gray, but rather vividly transcended. Recorded for free by producer and friend, Mike Albert, the result stands at Nichols' strongest work to date - soaring and inspiring, original and propelling.

Raw emotion powerfully delivered

Of the fifty plus albums I have bought so far in 06 this is easily the stand out purchase. His songs are emotional pressure cookers and he does not hold back in delivering the power of his feelings but he never looses control. Compares favourably with two great albums of 05 (Trouble - Ray LaMontagne and Veneer - Jose Gonzalez) but is a class apart from both. Lock the door, turn down the lights and concentrate on listening to this fantastic album

This CD is incredible. Kris is extremely talented, and I can definitely see him becoming more well-known and loved. The songs (especially my favorite, "Lapse", #4) are so emotionally charged that you can just hear what he's feeling through his voice. They are also easy for anyone to relate to. Great job, Kris!! Thanks for giving me another CD to obsess over ;)

I love this CD. IT's very mellow, and am easy listen. You can really read into the songs and get the musicians perspective of emotion, as well as relate to it in a way to make it your very own. The songs are toughtful and serene. The lyrics will make you think and possibly send a little shiver down your spine. Enjoy! It was worth every penny.
