Album Notes

The Kris Special is a two-piece band from Southern California. If The Kris Special were a car, they'd have chipped wood paneling and probably wouldn't pass smog check. It has been said they sound like the desert. Influences ranging from Slim Whitman to Queens of the Stone Age to the Misfits, and the band's devotion to playing straight from their hearts give The Kris Special a classic, unclassifiable color and sound that is completely sincere and ignores trends. Their powerful sound, sweeping melodies, and emotional themes have gained a strong fan-base throughout Los Angeles and its surrounding communitites including the emerging Silver Lake/Echo Park scene. Their growing popularity at Mr. T's Bowl has led to their ongoing monthly residency where they have become a big brother to many up-and-coming local and touring bands. The Kris Special is obsessed with playing their best show ever every night.

The Kris Special's debut album - Alone Feels Like a Hotel Room - is dirty and gorgeous. It's a perfectly satisfying meal at a character-drenched old diner. Faded photographs and license plates on the greasy wood wall. Gold booths and chrome detailed tables. Coffee and Camel cigarettes. It's the kind of album you put on your headphones or your car stereo to make yourself feel better. The flow and the dynamics of the tracks leave you energized and uplifted. Alone Feels Like a Hotel Room was made with The Kris Special's DIY attitude and a lot of love and attention to detail. The album was self-recorded and produced at Anne Pointer's studio Frequency Out of Range, located in the Southern California desert just outside of Los Angeles. Their friend Raymond Richards (Mojave 3, Brian Jonestown Massacre) mixed the album and played his sparkly blue pedal steel guitar. John Golden (Sonic Youth, Green Day) mastered the album by the ocean.

The Kris Special's sole priority is making music that moves people. They feel the expression of their music is very important, and if you ask a fan, they will tell you how important The Kris Special is to them.
