PRESS RELEASE:
KRISTEN TOEDTMAN RELEASES DEBUT CD OF "SLOW-BURNING" SOUL ENTITLED "THE FALL"
January 1, 2010 (Los Angeles, California) -- LA Singer and member of the Baltimore Afrobeat Society and The Brendan Hines band Kristen Toedtman releases her debut CD on her own, I Say Tedman Records. A kick-back to vintage soul with country twists and strong, witty lyrics, the 8 songs on The Fall are all original, save for a new arrangement of the spiritual, Precious Lord, Take my Hand. All other words and lyrics by Kristen Toedtman except for one song, penned by actor Brendan Hines and Al Sgro of Answer Productions and The Chalet Studio and played by Toedtman on ukulele. Hands down, the stand out feature is her powerful voice, described as "compelling," "devastating" and "like champagne with chocolate."
On December 21st, Kristen and her 8-piece band celebrated the coming release with a show at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles for fans & friends. They will continue to promote with live shows in Los Angeles in the coming months. CDs are available for purchase on the artist's website www.kristentoedtman.com and are coming soon to stores (Store Date tba), cdBaby and iTunes. In addition, Kristen is offering mp3s for free download from her site, rotating the songs available in an effort to spread the music as easily as possible.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Kristen Toedtman comes to Los Angeles from Baltimore where she finished her studies in classical singing and cut her teeth in the Free-Improvising scene (playing piano & violin) as well as being a founding member of the Baltimore Afrobeat Society. She came west in 2003 to compose music for a play by Robert Anton Wilson and stayed, supported by her classical music endeavors (she is a member of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, performing frequently at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Hollywood Bowl; and early music group The Concord Ensemble). Citing influences like Bill Withers, Cat Power and Peggy Lee, Kristen's sound is fresh with vintage overtones.
