Album Notes

All tracks on Bric-a-Brac were written and recorded by Kristi Michele. Tracks 7 and 12 were each a variation on a classical piece.

TRACKS:

Intro (Everywhere)- the album begins with a snippet from Kristi Michele’s upcoming all-vocal EP. As such, it is, of course, all-vocal (that is, sans instruments!)

Chirp- a saddened and weary guitar song that explores the strange relationship between myself as a human being and the birds that live in my peripheral vision.

Taming a Lion- a piano ditty straight from a 1930s cabaret. ‘I’m a dancing a dance in a parade…”

Elf Man- an orchestral/choral piece that evokes a funny little elf man frolicking in the woods.

And I Lock It- a confessional guitar tune that likens a lover from the past to a brittle paper doll. “You’re perforated so I punch along the lines. Your edges only tear in my too-hasty times.”

Castle Over Me- an exuberant march across the black and white keys with nary a fairy tale ending. “And then a gust blows me away! A huff and puff from whence you came…”

A Girl (leaves her house and wonders through the night alone)- another outwoodsy tune, based on Johann Sebastian Bach’s 2nd Invention. Vocoders and tuned percussion paint the picture of a big lonely night filled with ghouls and windy whistles.

Rain is Falling- piano and voice melancholia. “Far, far ago and a long time away it was almost as though the sun always would stay…”

So Soon- a musical half-word set to a poem. A folk retelling of a man’s journey to everywhere and nowhere at all.

See, It’s Easy!- dreamy piano tells the story of a languid day in the sleepy hay. “Oh me!”

Juliet’s Lament- a variation on Henry Purcell’s aria ‘Dido’s Lament”. A bittersweet all-vocal requiem.

Jonny’s Suite- a five minute micro-symphony complete with xylophones, blaring horns, and monsters in furry suits.

Outro (Candy Shop)- another snippet of “My hands, they were sleepy so!”, Kristi Michele’s upcoming all-vocal EP.
