Album Notes

This clever collection of 14 original songs and parodies by Kristin Lems was composed during her doctoral studies in reading and language and during her teaching. She says, "I want to share them with you in the hope you can find ways to use them in your own teaching or learning, or just for fun!" The CD is nested in a book which has lyrics of the songs on one side and possible classroom activities on the back of each lyric sheet, at two broad levels: emergent/developing (E/D), and fluent/proficient (F/P)
The levels can be interpreted in a flexible way for age, grade, and proficiency level.

The songs are fun for anyone, and useful in many classroom settings as well. If you’re not a teacher or student, just enjoy the music, and skip the back side!

"Come By Here, Martin Luther King" was an instant classic when Kristin first introduced it to a large audience on the eve of the Iraq War and soon had the rafter ringing with King's words put to music.

"Sacajawea" has also been a showstopper -- the less known information about the heroic life of this young mother and guide.

Upbeat, life-affirming songs fill the CD/book. "Bumps in the Road" is a rollicking tribute to the friends we always know are there when we hit the bumps; "Think About Nothing" reminds us that minds need to clear out the clutter to become great! "All Kids can Learn," a calypso, reminds us all that school can be a happy place with each learner honored; the hilarious parodies "ZPD Doo Dah" and "Dewey Doo Wap" will delight any students or faculty in education classes; and "Phonological Awareness," another popular parody by Kristin, absolutely enthralls reading teachers -- while also encapsulating just what the skill is, and how to build it in kids.

Fun, refreshing, and "100% pure Kristin," these songs are a must for teachers and their friends......
