"She's Been Waiting" - Intelligent and Honest

I saw Kristy perform with her band for the first time over a year ago, and I was instantly struck by both her lyrical sincerity and her obvious musicianship. Kristy's writing is undesigning, but draws the listener in none the less. The songs have a unique blend of being instantly likeable and catchy, without feeling at all derivative. Before she and her band had finished their set, I was hooked.
Since then, I've been anxiously awaiting another release from Kristy, and "She's Been Waiting," is more than I could have asked for. Her songwriting has matured, and with the help of producer and bassist, Mike Chiaburu, her sound has blossomed into something she can call her own. This release meanders through genre classifications while consistently offering a fresh lyrical perspective. Kristy explores a diversity of sound and style that could leave lesser artists sounding directionless, but one gets the opposite impression from "She's Been Waiting." This is an extremely well thought out and well produced release, and I strongly recommend it.

An astounding album from star-in-the-making Kristy Hanson!

While Kristy Hanson lovingly refers to her brand of music as "Chick Rock", one listen to her second album "She's Been Waiting" proves Hanson draws heartily from many genres, and with astonishing success. While Hanson's guitar guides all six tracks, a piano, strings, drums, and back-up vocals weave effortlessly throughout.
In her lyrics, Hanson tackles many aspects of a complicated relationship. The strongest track, "Half the Moon", features Hanson singing about the frustration ofunrequited love (in the first chorus, she sings "You'd think I'd be used to the hours alone", but as the songs grows more passionate and heartfelt, it turns into "I don't wanna get used to the hours alone"). "Alone on the Playground", lushly orchestrated with strings, a flute, and an oboe, is a haunting and sweeping ode to the importance of patience in a relationship; and the album's clsoing track, "Take It Back", is an apology with hope coursing through its up-tempo veins.
The tracks on "She's Been Waiting" are complex but never muddy, individual but consistently pleasing. While Hanson tinkers with and combines pop, rock, folk, and jazz elements, one thing remains resoundingly crystal-clear: She is a captivating singer and a remarkable songwriter. And while this particular album may seem short, it represents the start of something wonderful-a strong and original voice that will surely lead to an impressive career. BUY THIS ALBUM, because Kristy Hanson is here to stay.

A Breathtaking Album--This is a "MUST HAVE!"

Restlessly innovative, Kristy Hanson's new album ranges from deeply personal folk stylings to pop/rock and jazz--while at the same time exploring luminous, starkly confessional territory along with more traditional folk/rock terrain. Hanson is a truly unique artist, seamlessly combining near-flawless technique with an astoundingly refreshing take on folk/pop/rock. I've had this CD on almost constant rotation in my player and I don't think there's one bad track on the entire record--a true artistic achievement. The backing band is also fantastic, providing rock solid grooves and arrangements but careful not to overshadow the main attraction: Hanson's soulful voice and melodic guitar stylings. If there's one album you buy this year, make it this one. You won't be dissapointed. I can't wait until Kristy's tour brings her out East so I can catch her live. That way, I'll be able to say I saw her before she was a star.
