Album Notes

Pittsburgh folk-pop philosopher Heather Kropf is a native of the Pacific Northwest and currently resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Inspired by the early work of Suzanne Vega, Sting, Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell, Heather began to pen and perform her own songs while earning a degree in Fine Art at Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana. Her 2000 release was a runner-up for the 50 best albums of the year by WYEP, 91.3 FM Pittsburgh. She collaborated with Grammy-winner Scott Hull (John Mayer, Steely Dan) to mix and master her 2005 release, which was voted a top Pittsburgh album by WYEP and called a "musical masterpiece" by Pittsburgh Magazine.

For her third CD, Hestia, she partnered with bassist/producer Randall Venturini (Renaissance City Men's Choir, Keith Hershberger). This new release is at once both rich and spare and resonant with Steinway loveliness. Kropf’s lush voice is paramount, a nod to those who have longed for its prominence. Most arrangements are elegantly unobtrusive, allowing her gifts to surface in all their finespun glory. Some songs are old favorites and some are soon to be. An album by Heather Kropf is made to be played with recidivist abandon, until you have all the harmonies dancing in your head.

"Kropf's work has a quiet elegance, both musically and lyrically” – Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

“Her new CD, "Hestia," is a departure from her previous work in that it captures the organic essence of her live performance. The sound is clear, simple and devoid of the kind of studio post-production that can hamper an artist such as Kropf, whose piano and vocal skills fit together so well.” – Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

"Heather. I think it's your best yet. Hands down. It's got a pure, raw ambience, a strength of quiet presence." - Tracy Drach, singer-songwriter

Hestia

I love the mixture of the new with the old, familiar, yet reworked, almost disguised...but then recognized lyrics and sound. Bravo Heather! But I miss Cholera. maybe next time?
