A rare collaborative project by Toronto based musicians Kurt Swinghammer and Andy Stochansky, Remote is structured as a journey across a changing landscape of moods and textures. Different scenes come into focus as each track fades into the next, creating a seamless sonic environment. This album was made in the spirit of pure creative expression.
Andy is a singer/songwriter currently making music that is heavily influenced by Brit Pop, and whose major label CD 5 Star Motel has received significant acclaim and support. He is perhaps best known for drumming and recording with Ani DiFranco for seven years, as well as tracking with The Indigo Girls. Remote is a chance to hear the more experimental side of this engaging and creative artist.
Kurt has performed on Andy's indie CD's, and shares a connection with Ani DiFranco as well. He recorded guitars on her To The Teeth CD, and had his CD VOSTOK 6 released on her label Righteous Babe Records. His reputation as a guitarist with a diverse vocabulary that includes generating unexpected sounds has led to extensive session work on album projects. He has numerous film score and TV credits that feature his compositional and instrumental approach. While his solo CD's are mostly song oriented, Remote reflects his interest in ambient and instrumental music.
Swinghammer's conceptual cover design of hand carved illustrations is a distinctive interpretation of the music, juxtaposing images of CD technology in a stone age medium. His website includes a gallery of his visual work, as well as complete discography and support material for his CD releases.
