Album Notes

Karl Stephen Brunig

“Welcome to the New World” is Karl Stephen Brunig’s first fully produced effort blending Blues, Pop, and Americana with unabashed Spiritual lyrics reflecting his Christian walk. Now a resident of Houston, Texas, Karl is enjoying the rich musical mixtures of the Gulf Coast. In evidence of this is his effort, “Where is God?” (The Katrina song,) inspired by his work with evacuees of New Orleans as they arrived in Houston. Also notable, is an acoustic Blues version of “Amazing Grace” featuring a genuine Texas rainstorm.

Born in Syracuse, New York in the mid 1950’s to a middle class family, Karl sang in the church choir and took piano lessons as a young boy. At age 15 he started a series of rock bands either fronting as lead singer or playing organ, Fender Rhodes piano, and arcane analog synthesizers. By the late 1980’s he was living in southern Pennsylvania writing Gospel-tinged ballads and commercial jingles. Life was quiet living among the Amish in York and Lancaster but a storm was brewing just over the horizon. After a series of life changing events Karl ended up in Albany, New York with a few painful but non-lethal wounds.

1993 turned out to be a watershed year for Karl Stephen Brunig. He finished his Music Production degree at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, co-produced “Easter Island Vacation” by Conehead Buddha, and entered the digital music age. He went on to start Mighty Rushing Wind Recording Studios and produce a series of Upstate New York regional artists such as the young Christian band “Revolution,” and the Jewel-like Phoebe Henry. Karl’s first solo album, “Mountain Shadow, Mountain Light,” captured the mysteries of the Adirondack Mountains through a series of piano and synthesizer improvisations and is available through his MySpace site: www.Myspace.com/karlbrunigmusic.
