My Favorite Fusion-of-Everything Bassist's Masterpiece
author: Dr. Hillel N. Goldstein

For anyone with an interest in seemingly unlimited talent applied to bass playing, I'd prescribe this one without hesitation. Mr. Kumalo's awe-inspiring command of the electric bass has been a given for a couple of decades. But in this album, he goes a step further by bringing it all home even better than before (which seemed impossible)! Here you will hear the man fuse his monster funk, jazz, South-African, and rock bass playing expertise more seamlessly than ever, which is quite a feat. Stanley Clarke put out an album years ago called, if I recall, "If This Bass Could Only Talk." Of course, Mr. Clarke was being modest: His bass talked more eloquently than the finest orators. The same applies to Bakithi Kumalo. His bass speaks in many tongues, all mesmerizing, all worth learning to appreciate deeply, perchance even to speak. I play bass professionally. If I had issues, I'd sell my gear after listening to any of Mr. Kumalo's albums. But that would be silly! Whether you are a bassist, other musician, or musical explorer of any sort, this recording will speak to you and teach you things you will not forget. It might even teach you to play some majestic riffs!
