Album Notes

A native New Yorker with a penchant for the coasts, Caryn Kupferman started performing when she was a teenager, busking in Harvard Square and San Francisco. Save for a brief stint in L.A. singing standards with a jazz trio, she spent the next few decades avoiding the stage, but continued to write songs in between pesky day jobs and full time life.

In 2005, she was given an opportunity to work with producer Evan Brubaker (Holly Figueroa, Edie Carey, Kym Tuvim) on her first cd release; Pitch Black Mile. The album features improvisational arrangements by Eyvind Kang (viola), Joel Litwin (percussion), Chris Welch (keyboards), Paul Gabrielson (upright bass), and Paul Elliott (violin).

She lives in the Pacific Northwest.

This is a favorite at our house. Caryn is one big talent from her incredible inventive vocals to her fabulous songwriting - great melodies and poetic lyrics. Hard to believe a CD this good hasn\'t attracted big league attention. It really deserves a huge audience.

Caryn's voice is lush and gorgeous. Not since k.d. lang have I heard a voice with such unique, powerful proportions. These songs give and give and give. Pure pleasure for the heart and soul.

I've been looking forward to the arrival of this CD since hearing Caryn a few years ago. She's got it all, great songwriting, a wonderful voice, and tasteful phrasing. The production is yet another great work by Evan Brubaker.
