Album Notes

Songs as maps may be the best way to describe Kirk Wheeler's new release "Bonfires". From the hills and valleys of "Glady's Don't Be Sad", the horn soaked seas of "As Sweet As Your Love" and on through the dirty streets of "Bullfight" you are invited on a journey.

Again produced by long time collaborator Zac Rae "Bonfires" leans heavily on the collective spirit that drove much of Kirk's 2005 release "Good Company". Over 4 days in January 2007 a cast of many talents came together to capture a feeling. With modern methods of recording making it easy to lose the first spark the intent here was to hold on tight and follow where ever it lead. People playing music together - in the same room - at the same time shapes the canvas like nothing else can. The results can be heard in the carry my heart up the mountain groove of "Dry Wood" to the brakes don't work downhill chorus of "City of Love".

Recommended for fans of artists like M.Ward, Wilco, Tom Petty, Ryan Adams, Josh Ritter, Bright Eyes, Neko Case, Etc.
