Album Notes

Transylvania, NY was once home to (now defunct) Ameristein Laboratories, which conducted top-secret research experiments, mostly for the United States military. However, for reasons, unknown, a covert project in the early '80s detailed the formation of four super-intelligent music machines, bred to rock...and to roll. The project was entitled "Ladystein." The girls showed preternatural musical ability from the moment they rose off the laboratory table. In the late '80s, they were put on tour as the "Wee Ladies Tea Party." The group disbanded in the late '90s to cultivate their individual eccentricities. In 2004, Alana and Kate reformed the band as a duo, reclaiming their original scientific identity, Ladystein. In late 2006, Annie and Lori joined the band, which is rocking today more than ever before.

No, but really....

Alana McNair and Kate Wilkinson met whilst studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Although Alana hailed from Georgia and Kate hailed from Connecticut, they bridged the Mason-Dixon line through their common interests of eclectic music, vintage musical instruments, and haberdashery, and became fast friends. This friendship eventually morphed into a sweet collaboration. They decided to up and form a band, and thus Ladystein was born. They began performing together in 2004. In 2006, Annie Nero and Lori Billela joined -- instantly transforming Ladystein into a real rock 'n' roll band!

"The wry but sweet-natured band --until recently a duo, now a quartet--is bold enough to mention outsider-music heroes the Shaggs among its influences, and we can see the similarity, if the Shaggs had had self-awareness and had been able to play their instruments. "Tour Guide," about the necessary evil of schlepping visiting relatives to New York City's tourist attractions, should prove to be a season favorite." -- Village Voice

"The two local gals in Ladystein harmonize about funny subjects, like their preference for doing the nasty while wearing socks ("Socks") and the unfortunate task of showing out-of-towners around New York ("Tour Guide")" -- Time Out New York

Two [former] art students from NYU's Tisch (who actually know Corey Feldman) and two others friends on drums and bass, create some cool, lo-fi pop." -- Dagger
