The Merry-Go-Round of Life is classic R&B with Smooth Jazz and spiritual overtones. There is a story behind each song, including the two instrumentals, Inside and Return.
In an interview dated 3/24/2006 with Delta Bluhe, Lafayette states, “The songs are about the things that we encounter in life, which I refer to as 'the merry-go-round of life', such as love, consequences for our actions, and spiritual awakenings.” According to the interview, one of Lafayette’s favorite songs on this CD is Love Wait, which “…was inspired by those times in my life when I allowed very important relationships to suffer for various reasons. The song actually brought me to tears at times as I thought about how I will never get the opportunity on this side of glory again to share with those that have passed.”

Being a connoisseur of great music for many years, I found Lafayette Charles’ THE MERRY-GO-ROUND OF LIFE, a refreshingly great addition to the Music Masters. In my search for great music that moves me, it has always been a rare delight when I find a “cut” (CD, LP, etc.) that delivers not just one or two greats “cuts” that I can grove on, but when it’s the entire CD, ladies and gentlemen, that’s rare and very special. And Lafayette Charles’ THE MERRY-GO-ROUND OF LIFE is proof positive. When I listen to a new CD for the first time, and keep playing it over and over – it’s saying something to me musically, lyrically and emotionally, because the artist is telling his story, his way, and when it touches me and it did. I know he is an artist that the world will come to appreciate and love, because Lafayette Charles has all the ingredients of a great musician that all the other stars will have to make room for. Your lyrics are uniquely you, Mr. Charles, VERY WELL DONE!!!!
