Album Notes

Home Works gets an 'A'. Rick Lally's debut CD sounds unique, soulful and upbeat. Quite an accomplishment for a first timer! The songs take us places with their strong vocals and catchy melodies. The track Caribbean Blues seems full of hope with it's waves and seagulls in the background. The song was actually written in the anticipation of a trip to Cancun Mexico. On the track Looking Down On You Rick gives an accurate picture of life in a non-perfect world, but offers some good advice in the song as well. Jump Start is a straight ahead rocker while Suzzanna just pores all its' love out of the speakers. The haunting Cross Eyed comes from a man that appears to be writing from his heart and Rick's clever lyrics are very evident in She Must Be A Detective. Most of the vocals are shared on the first track, Blown Away and it works. Both Rick and Marcie Denyer, who is the guest vocalist, seem very comfortable together. Perhaps the strongest cut is Spring Time. This song seems to grab you and pull you in with its hypnotic guitar work and continues to impress you throughout with strong keyboards, vocals and lyrics all intertwined in quite an ode to Spring! The CD offers 15 total tracks in all. Ambitious? yes, but Home Works stays solid to the last cut. I can't wait for our next chance to hear what Mr. Lally has for us in his 2004 follow-up Album Acoustic Dreams. ------------ Matthew E. Gettys
