For years the underground of hip hop music has been growing and coming closer and closer to the forefront. With the advent of internet promotion, and site like Myspace and Soundclick, it's come all too easy for local 'indie homegrown labels' like Lalo Records to get music from our rhymebooks to your ipods. With shows done all over Long Island, and a tour of house parties rocked, we proudly present to you the first project of many to come from the Lalo Records family. Hooks and Rex DaSet step up to the limelight with this collaboration, dubbed "Lalo Records Presents: The Weekend Warriors Mixtape." Additional verses are dropped by The Namesake, Da Phuzz, Imperial Hebris, and Hands. Contained on thie disc you'll find "Underground As Fuck" - our biggest song to date, "Any Way You Want It" - a tongue in cheek analysis of relationships gone wrong, and "Weekend Warriors" - which features dueling verses from Hooks and Rex about what makes them the party animals they are.
Also included on this disc are 4 exclusive, not available anywhere else freestyles, and several tracks from Plan Be (a collaborative effort comprised of Hooks and The Namesake.)
For fans of the Beastie Boys early work, or for fans of Atmosphere and the Rhymesayers crew, this mixtape is just the beginning of something huge in hip hop. We still remember when music was a passion and not a business, and want you to remember that as well.
