notes
David LaMotte's new studio record, Spin, takes his writing and his sound to new levels. The recording moves gracefully between the naked intensity of solo acoustic tunes and the lush richness of full production, including strings and screaming Southern Rock lap steel.
Rooted in his writing, Spin showcases LaMotte's novelist's eye in subjects from current international conflicts to intimate character sketches. The twelve songs are original, including two co-writes, one with Chris Rosser and one with New Zealand writer Jared White.
David's eighth recording, Spin was produced and recorded on both coasts. The three producers (Chris Rosser in North Carolina, Evan Brubaker and Troy Glessner in Washington state) created the record as a team.
Several of LaMotte's songwriting peers show up in the liner notes, including Christine Kane and Jonathan Kingham. River Guerguerian plays percussion, and fretless bass icon Michael Manring (Michael Hedges, John Gorka) is also found in the mix.
The release of Spin comes close on the heels of LaMotte's fourth European tour, this year sponsored by German carmaker Opel. In January he'll be the headliner at the Auckland Folk Festival in New Zealand, kicking off his third tour there, to be followed by extensive touring in the U.S.

Another Winner!
author: D TeachmanI keep thinking the last one is the best and that he can't get any better -- and he keeps proving me wrong! Spin has a somewhat different sound from LaMotte's earlier work, but the same talent, richness, and sensibility is there -- as are the guitar-spanking, deep-chocolaty-rich voice, and positive spin on the complexities of life on this planet. If you are already a LaMotte fan, don't miss out on this one. And if you haven't heard him yet, this is an ideal introduction to a master songwriter/singer who is genuinely intelligent, thoughtful, and spiritual -- as well as great fun.
Best yet...
author: Benny MorrisonThis is a really strong album. Miss You could be a single on any radio station while Chances includes one of the best and unique lyrics I've ever heard in a love song. Water is a great driving song and Peter speaks to the current world environment perfectly. David did take some risk with some new directions in some songs with production and sound but they paid off big time as somehow he always produces something that is simply a work of art.

Folk music for the 21st century!
author: Carol (in Texas)David took some risks with this new CD, and they paid off! Spin is indie-folk music for the 21st century. He spent creative time and energy writing beautiful songs before he partnered with two fabulous producers to make Spin a reality. David still spanks the guitar, and your ears will be glad he does. It's all about the music!
