Not quite folk and not quite pop, Sara Landymore knows how to stand out in a crowd and has made her mark as one of the most memorable songwriters in the Washington, D.C. area. She was named 1997 Songwriter of the Year by the Washington Area Music Association and was included in the Washington Posts Top 20 Albums that year as well. With a strong right hand and percussive guitar style, Landymore is a far cry from the airy-fairy stereotype of many women songwriters, opting instead to lead with the heart and follow with a curmudgeonly joke. She cringes when compared to Bob Dylan, as she strongly believes she can sing much better than that, but others have compared her to Nick Drake. When asked to describe her own music she is likely to say "take Tracy Chapman and John Prine and smash them together and it's kinda like that."
