Album Notes

The Music - This record is important. It marks a return to imaginative songwriting that takes the listener on an unforgettable musical journey. It’s fresh, and, yet, it takes you back to a time when people danced together and when an album was played from start to finish.

The CD opens with “I’ll Do All the Rest”, which is a fun song in the tradition of country swing with a touch of Andrews Sisters’s charm. This song and the Cajun flavored “Fiddy Dollar Bill” would be quite a refreshing change for today’s country radio. They both have a wonderful two-step bounce with charismatic vocals by Lane.

“Tokyo Belle” is my favorite song on the album. It captures with clarity and detail all the pathos of the story, which is rare these days. The horn arrangements are tight, and the flavor of Dixieland swing gives the sonics a captivating time stamp, which you can’t help but love.

“Old School Funk” takes me back to the great times Bea and I had in Chicago, so I put a real R&B Chicago flavored mix on it. Tower of Power vocalist, Brent Carter, performs the vocals. Brent also performs on “Blush Wine”, which is a throwback to classic summertime songs. Lane‘s quest for this song was to write the perfect “Shag” song for his friends back in the Carolinas.

“Honeymoon Song” combines Dixieland flavor with Lane crooning on all six vocal tracks. It’s about an impatient groom with a modern twist. “Patina”, on the other hand, is a dramatic instrumental painted with broad strokes of Latin romance and passion.

The record ends with a real treat as Randie Paul sings “Far Away from this Room”. The song also features Cuban Born percussionist Orlando Sanchez, bassist Charlie Silva, and trumpeter Stephen Walters, who bring it all together with a dash of Latin spice. So sit back, relax, and enjoy.
