Album Notes

This 'Take Love Easy' album features New York City vocalist Shawn Aileen Clark with a trio on up to an 8 piece swing band arranged by arranging marvel Chris Byars. Perfect for cocktails & dinner party and a romantic turn on the dancefloor with your sweetie.

Chris Byars’ arrangements make the little-known songs romantic and bright, while breathing new life into classic standards. Highlights include a Billie Holiday obscurity 'The Moon Looks Down and Laughs,' Lucky Thompson's swinging instrumental 'Bunny,' Bob Haymes gem 'You For Me,' and Duke Ellington's saucy 'Take Love Easy' along with a few beloved jazz standards. Rounding out the band is:

John Merrill, guitar
Jerry Dodgion, alto sax. flute
Chris Byars, tenor sax, flute, conga, arrangements
Andy Farber, baritone sax, clarinet
Richie Vitale, trumpet, flugelhorn
John Mosca, trombone
Chris Pistorino, bass
Brian Floody, drums
Shawn Aileen Clark, vocal

This album was recorded live in the studio – no punch ins, retakes, overdubs. The horn section is full of New York legends, mixing very well with the vocals and rhythm section. Check out the band live in NYC and Brooklyn. They play regularly everywhere.

I love this CD for dinner parties at home, but also on my ipod while riding my bike to work. This is really great especially given that it was recorded live. Shawn Clark has an extraordinary voice and I look forward to hear her singing live next I am in NY and to the purchase of my next CD by Lapisluna. Keep it up! And try a little world tour next :)

From a Soundtrack?

the big band sounds like something from a movie soundtrack in the 40s. 'Down with Love' is groovin'! The second half of the album is great fun, the first part is sweet. I agree with the other posting about the singer Shawn, and I want to add she could relax and sing something a bit more loose and fun. I'm glad I purchased this and look forward to another album from this band. Good job. And yes, it is rather good for dancing.

This is a great CD for cocktails and some good ol swing dancing.

This is really quite good considering it was recorded live. It makes the music sound real. Shawn Clark has a great voice and I look forward to her singing songs that aren't so structured. She has great potential as a vocalist and although her voice was definitley made to sing jazz, I want to hear her do more than just american standards. The arrangements are wonderful by Chris Byars. He really knows what he's doing. I am a fan of his Octet and see them whenever I am in town. The CD emcompasses straight ahead jazz, sexy lounge, and a decent amount of swing songs and a mambo really good for dancing.
