Album Notes

In April of 2008 I was enlisted to arrange the music for, and form a trombone troupe to perform at the wedding ceremony of my niece, Andie. She wanted some specific hymns to be played, hymns that reminded her of her grandmother, my mother.

After the wedding I found myself wondering what I was going to do with these first 3 arrangements.

June brought vacation for me. I had time to think about this "project". I kept thinking and the project kept growing as I added hymn arrangements. First, eight hymns, then fifteen - and ultimately thirty. My plan was that the arrangements could be played by good students and nonprofessionals, as well as professionals.

In the Fall I proposed to the trombone section of the Los Angeles Philharmonic that we record these hymns and spirituals for a CD. My suggestion was met with great enthusiasm.

We hope you, the listener, enjoy this CD as much as we enjoyed making it.
