Lara Ewen was born in New York City, but her songs evoke dirt roads as much as asphalt. Influenced by folk and blues traditions, and with a nod to today's alt. country sound, she weaves bare acoustic guitar and thought-provoking lyrics together, producing a distinctly original body of work.
Throughout her career, she has favored the unconventional way forward, beginning with her early days as a street musician, and more recently with a year spent in the Midwest following the self-release of her debut 5-song CD, Clear. But whether she's playing to packed bars in Kansas City or crowded coffeehouses in New York, Lara consistently attracts fans to her lush guitar playing, which can swing from percussive rhythms to intricate, fingerpicked melodies. Her voice, at once sweet and stark, takes on a growling ferocity in her more rowdy moments, lending an unexpected edge to her music. Infused with wry observations and cheeky undertones, her songs provide a fresh perspective on traditional ideas about love, loss and longing - and have earned her comparisons to Lucinda Williams, Ani Difranco and Jonatha Brooke.

Clearly amazing

For me, the only shortcoming if this album is that is has only 5 songs. Lara 's uniquely evocative and expressive voice drives these bluesy, acoustic gems. She has a real talent for weaving creative stories and vivid images into a strongly appealing musical blend that satisfies and pleases. "Clear" is an amazing offering from an amazing artist.
