Larke is a young singer / songwriter from the U.K. He is currently based in Tokyo, Japan and this depth of experience of other cultures both informs and enriches his lyrical vision. He’s been compared to Dylan and Cohen lyrically, with a strong ear for melody and catchy hooks. His songs are eclectic; ranging from folk / protest style songs to tongue-in-cheek witticisms, to pure pop songs and even dance remixes. Any fan of singers and songs that truly have something to say will find much to enjoy here.

A great first offering. Subtle and simply laid out.
Melt, a catchy offering to ease you in followed by tunes with a more serious note(We need heroes), enlaced with melancholy and a hint of sarcasm(revolution tonight). The market for this type of writer is sadly in a lull, otherwise greater things would surely beckon sooner rather than later.
I'll await the next offering.

The 'Kanagawa AM EP' is the debut offering from Larke and a taster for the forthcoming album (end of 2009). Recorded over a long day in Hashimoto, Kanagawa,Japan. It neatly showcases the many strings to his bow. You have socially-conscious songwriting ('We Need Heroes'), wry observations of life ('Revolution Tonight') and an earnest and heartfelt love song ('Melt'). A concise and inviting release.

An interesting taster for the future.

This is a great little first offering from Larke; some great lyrics and he's obviously an artist with lots to say. 'Revolution Tonight' and 'We Need Heroes' both have very interesting lyrics and very catchy melodies. 'Melt is more of a straight-ahead pop song, with more conventional romantic themes. The 'Naked' version is lovely and gentle and provides a great counterpoint to the other two versions on offer here. All in all, highly recommended if you like interesting and thought-provoking singer-songwriters. I can't wait to hear more!
