Lark & Spur began as duo, street performers in Europe. Jeff Whiteley on guitar and vocals, and Lori Decker, mandolin and traffic stopping vocals. Some of those first performances were recorded by a radio station owner and later broadcast in France.
Over the years we have added other musicians, among them but not at the same time: Chris Taylor, Greg Peterson, Evan Coombs, Ray Smith, Gawain Mathews, Jesse Crosby, Ryun Louie and Greg Floor.
We perform most often as an acoustic quartet or quintet, instrumentation including guitars, mandolin, double bass, woodwinds, vocals and percussion.
We consider ourselves so retro as to be avant-garde. Angelic vocals over a dense weave of strings and woodwinds. Our repertoire is eclectic, ranging from jazz standards to French folk songs of the middle ages.
We live for the moments between the ending of a song and the beginning of applause, the silence when the audience is not yet willing to return from the journey, or the moment when the song is so beautiful the audience hesitates to clap, not wanting to break the spell.
We have performed at the Montreux, Brienz, Deauville and Juan les Pins jazz festivals. We have performed on radio and TV in France and Switzerland. In Utah, where we are based, we have performed for Utah Symphony events, for movie stars snd billionaires and countless private and public events.
We have three CDs: Season of Light, Under a Softening Sky, Taking Flight. Please visit our website for more information. Look for Lark & Spur at starpage.com

Joyful Christmas music that sounds and feels real.
author: Jeff Gates - Salt Lake City, UT
I recently heard Lark & Spur in concert - they were wonderful. They performed most of the music from the CD - and I bought the CD without hesitation. The music is both rich and light with great sensitivity and feeling. I could tell they love the songs they perform.
A lot of what I hear today seems to use songs just to showcase the talent of the artist - losing the flavor of the song. By contrast, Lark & Spur use there talent to showcase the beauty and richness of the songs they perform with a sensitivity and depth that makes the music just feel real.
