Having composed and sung lead on half of the songs that the 70's Atlantic recording artists' FIREFALL recorded, Larry Burnett demonstrated formidable talent and insight into the minds and hearts of millions of music lovers.

notes

As a 16-year-old in his father's home in Ventura, California, Larry Burnett wrote his first song. 10 years later, "Cinderella" ("one of the most frighteningly beautiful love song ever made", said one reviewer) was dominating the airwaves around the world as a single release from the debut album from Firefall. Fans were screaming their recognition at the distinctive opening hook of the song that began every Firefall performance for the next 9 years.

For a band that could have become famous for only a few shallow love songs, Larry Burnett's songs and singing added a diversity and edginess, as well as an irony in his own observations in affairs of the heart, which broadened the band's fan base and life span.

Firefall concerts, heavily laden with Burnett's songs, betrayed the innocence portrayed by the lighter side represented by his songwriting counterpart, Rick Roberts.

Having composed and sung lead on half of the songs that the band recorded, Larry Burnett demonstrated formidable talent and insight into the minds and hearts of millions of music lovers.

The songs of Firefall and Larry Burnett have been cited as major influences in the lives and music of such artists as Garth Brooks and Travis Tritt.

The demise of the band in no way affected Larry's life as a singer/songwriter. Having spent 10 years in the presence of songwriting peers like Michael McDonald, Stephen Stills, Billy Joel and others of the era, Larry Burnett has continued to develop and mature as a songwriter, combining his newly acquired skills and disciplines with his unique spin on life and relationships.

Larry Burnett has expanded his catalog along the way. He is releasing a new, limited edition CD in August 2004, with more to follow.

Larry is currently performing live, just he and his guitar, at selected venues around the US, presenting a few of the Firefall favorites (Cinderella, Just remember I Love You) alongside a predominance of newer, unheard compositions.

  • LB's still got it and still giving it!!!

I must say that this is the very first review I've ever posted about an artist or one's music. Being as jaded and cynical as my musical tastes reflect, the mere fact that I purchase copies of Larry Burnett's "Confidence Game" and send it to friends across the country speaks volumes about Burnett's material and execution. No, I'm definitely NOT on the payroll here, nor do I have any axe to grind other than the fact that I know "STRONG" when I hear it!!!

  • Welcome Back!
    author: David Eade

If Rick Robert was the heart of Firefall, then Larry Burnett was its soul. Confidence is right, as Larry sings with conviction, still unafraid to jump into characters who are not always sympathetic. 3 a.m. in Nashville recalls Piece of Paper, a standout track from Firefall's second album, but any of these songs would make a great concert opener and would have the audience eating out of his hand. So sit back, relax, and listen a master craftsman. Welcome back, Larry.

  • Return of Firefall's secret weapon

There are six reasons why Confidence Game delivers and all six are the songs from the CD. Reaffirms that Burnett has always been a real songwriter who writes about real things. In the 90's Confidence Game would have been tagged as unplugged but in 2004 it's Larry Burnett being Larry Burnett..and that's why the CD works.

Very nice work, Larry. Well written and great production value too. As a program director for a Rock station in Salt Lake, I hear a lot of new music... and most of it sucks. If I had an acoustic show, I would DEFINITELY make you a part of the line up. Keep it up! Cheers! Michael Foth - PD/KHTB Salt Lake City UT

  • Hearing the CD on the first listen is like being reacquainted with an old friend

Hearing the CD on the first listen is like being reacquainted with an old friend and discovering he was still as rock solid as ever. In many ways the CD is a six song teaser of so much cool things to come...it also reminds us that it's the work of a true songwriter at the top of his game... The songs blend heartbreak and humor, meaning it's not the work of some hack writer knocking out the same song over and over again. The title track locks in immediately. It’s a great opener and the pace doesn't slacken. 'Poor Baby" is like those edgy songs Del Shannon used to write and "3 A.M In Nashville" is what is so right about the CD…the heartbreak side of town. On the humor side is "No Money" that could also work as a Chuck Berry type Rock n Roll song. Hearing the acoustic take on 'Cinderella" was enough to inform me why I dug your deal in the first place...written and sung by an artist with soul. On one level the acoustic "Cinderella" has a freshness that it could have been composed last week yet on another angle it could be a lost Appalachian folk tune from another era. I think 'timeless' is the word I'm searching for.... Must add the production is clear and uncluttered...and totally devoid of trickery, meaning it focuses on the artist alone. Cool. I hear the soulful crack in your voice and the strength of your acoustic guitar picking...and that's what I'm there for. You should be proud...very proud. Michael McDonald/Australia
