Album Notes

Larry Penn has been entertaining folks by making music poetry and art for over three decades. He is a skillful songwriter with an acute sense of imagery that comes through in both his music and poetry. He sings and tells stories of people and hard work, trains, trucks, love, and life on the road.

A working man all his life he is able to relate to and develop a kinship with people he has met over the years and put their stories into song. He has also spent many hours in railroad yards photographing the graffiti on the cars. There he met railroad people and was able to bring them to life in his songs.

He has toured with Utah Phillips and The Rose Tattoo, a group of old hobos, anarchists and musicians, singing and telling stories which celebrate the ongoing influence of the railroads in American folk culture.

Larry will draw you in with his songs and keep you entertained with his warmth and style. His latest effort "War Stories" is a collecton of traditional and original material intended to illustrate the futility of war.

REVIEWS

Another great collection of songs from Larry Penn

Larry was in the Marines, and his army songs have the same ring of truth that his labor songs do. The humor and the pleasant melodies have a steel core - Larry makes songs, and renditions of other's songs, that are as solid and strong as songs can be.

War Stories may well be Larry's finest achievement to date, a deeply mature and riveting work that bears repeated listenings well. Each song is a delight, and taken as a whole the result is a stunning and moving tribute to our citizen soldiers.- Jym Mooney Mootown Productions
